Hi, this is Gayle from Glen-L bringing you a very special announcement. The Second Annual Gathering of Boat Builders will be held this October 24-26, at Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama. This is your official invitation to join us at this year's Gathering.
This free event is totally organized by the guys on the Glen-L Boatbuilder Forum and completely relies on volunteer help. So, if you want to pitch in, the help would be greatly appreciated. The current Glen-L Newsletter has some great photos from last year's event.
My husband John and I attended last year's Gathering and had such a wonderful time that we plan on being there again. When you come, you'll get to meet lots of builders of Glen-L designs that will have their actual boats with them. Last year Bob Maskel brought his Glen-L Sea Knight all the way from Minnesota and we had two Canadian friends that towed along a partially finished Monaco!

The best part was getting to talk to other builders to find out what they did and how, what they would do differently and especially the little hints and tricks they had to share. A great time was had by everyone. In fact, we have put together a 5 minute video that shows some of the boats from the 2007 Gathering and the West Coast Rendezvous that was held earlier this year in California. Please check out our video--I'm especially excited about it because I found a really neat song about building a boat that I think you'll like called "My Boat's Floating". Check out the video below...
If you would like to make it a weekend getaway and stay in Guntersville, you can find lodging online.
Many of us stayed at the Cabins last year and meals were all at the Pavillion in the cabin area as they will be again this year. The Lodge at the State Park is also open this year and I'm told it has great food. The schedule of events is pretty flexible, but here are the "bones" of the Gathering:
Friday, Oct. 24 - Low Country Boil provided by Ken Schott, around 6:00 and informal Meet & Greet. Many boats will be parked around the Pavillion for all to ooh and ahh over.
Saturday, Oct. 25 - Continental Breakfast around 7-10 am then off to the marina where all of the boats will be on display and in the water.
Saturday Lunch - On your own for this one
Saturday Night - Around 6:00, Dinner at the Pavillion, maybe a Chili cook-off or bar-b-que-- watch the Boatbuilder Forum for up-to-the-minute plans. Afterwards, enjoy fun, music (including some original Gathering songs) and awards presented to some of those who bring boats.
Sunday Oct. 26 - 7-10 am our Canadian friends will be preparing a hearty breakfast. Afterward a time for visiting and saying farewell to new friends until next year...
