DO NOT PURCHASE ANY MATERIAL UNTIL YOU READ THIS SECTION:
LUMBER: Mahogany, white oak, spruce, Douglas-fir, long leaf yellow pine, or any clear wood that has been used successfully for boatbuilding. Lumber is 1" lumberyard stock, usually finished to 3/4" net thickness. The plans and these instructions will refer to 1" lumberyard stock as 3/4" material.

PLYWOOD: All plywood must be intended for marine or exterior use. Interior grades are NOT acceptable. Marine plywood has higher grade inner ply cores, while the exterior grade cores may be of inferior material with inner voids not apparent to the eye. In most cases, the glues used in both marine and exterior panels are the same. Douglas-fir plywood or any suitable marine grade veneer plywood may be used. The grade of the exterior veneer of plywood panels is identified by the letters A, B, and C with A being best, etc. The best face of all panels should be the one exposed. Note: The 4 mm plywood layout is tight. There is not enough material to cut the seat back laminates. Options: The seat back can be made from two layers of 1/4" plywood or three layers of door skin; the forward seat bulkhead can be cut from 1/4" material instead of 4 mm. The test model used 4 mm for both the fore and aft seat bulkheads.
GLUE. All permanent joints should be glued with epoxy adhesives intended for wooden boat use. These may be epoxy resin with additives or epoxy glue.

EPOXY RESIN: For gluing, laminate application, epoxy encapsulation, and resin putty.

  • EXTERIOR (Includes fiberglassing) = 1-1/2 gal.

MICROSPHERES (or equal): 3 lbs.
SILICA: 1 lb.

FIBERGLASS TAPE: For interior junctions per the LAMINATE SCHEDULE.

  • 3" width = 82 yds.
  • 4" width = 79 yds.

FIBERGLASS TAPE & CLOTH: For exterior seams and sheathing.

  • TAPE: 4" width = 79 yds (use only if not fiberglassing)
  • CLOTH: 38" width = 4 yds (bottom)
  • 50" width = 4-1/3 yds (split into two pieces, 25" x 13' for sides)
  • 50" Deck cloth = 1/2 yd (transom)

FASTENINGS: Flat head wood screws bronze or hot dipped galvanized.

  • 3/4" #8 Screws - 9 required
  • 1" #8 Screws - 7 required
  • 1-1/4" #8 Screws - 48 required
  • 1-1/2" #8 Screws - 9 required

Pan head drive screws (or equal) for temporary fasteners. - 1" #8 = 50 each

Carriage bolts: 1/4" x 3-1/2" with nut & three washers = 2
