Mr. John Bill of Materials
The following list of materials is divided into two parts,
one for the 12' model and the other for the 14'
model. Note that the lumber listings are the only change. The
fastenings and glues for all practical purposes will vary so
slightly as to be inconsequential. All lumber throughout
should be first grade free from shakes or knots. All widths
are listed as net. As an example, the 1" x 2-1/2"
bottom battens will actually be common 3" lumberyard
material. All thicknesses are for 1" or "four
quarters" material. When finished, this will usually
result in stock of from 3/4" to 13/16" in
thickness. All lengths allow material for cutting to the
exact length from the work. All plywood is designated as PW.
The grade in all cases is exterior (Ext) although a full
marine or solid core variety can be used. The letters
designate the soundness of the outer plies, that listed being
in all cases AB although AA panels are a better grade and may
be used. All B surface panels should be in the inside of the
boat where possible. Douglas-fir (DF) plywood is satisfactory
in all cases. All plywood should be a minimum of three plies
with the 3/4" material being a minimum of five plies.
Check the drawings for the proper layout for use of the
plywood as noted.
