Re: Tahoe 23

Well progress so far. .I have completed the sheer and deck clamp laminations. .Sanded and given the inside of the hull another coat of epoxy. .Made the guards for the sides and encapsulated them ready for fitting to the hull. I am only having guards down the sides. Not around the transom. At present...

Re: Key Largo build. Tahmoor (nr. Sydney) Australia

Rob I would assemble the frames first, then encapsulate. One thing I would do if I were building another boat would be to use filler blocks between the gussets in the bottom corner of the frames. It would just tidy off the frame and where they are exposed make them look more finished. Also you would...

Re: Key Largo build. Tahmoor (nr. Sydney) Australia

Hi Rob I used the Boatcraft Pacific products. I initally used the boat cote for encapsulating and added their thickener for gluing up. I had no issues with the product. But for gluing up I prefer to use their "epox-e-glue" which is a 2 part gel. With the liquid epoxies I find I break into ...

Re: Placement of guards on the Tahoe

Yes Bill, all the compound curves are part of the reason I decided not to take the guard across the back, but also I personally have not liked the look of ones I have seen done. Especially when they have been extended to form swimming platforms. It is my intention to have a stainless steel drop down...

Re: Placement of guards on the Tahoe

Thanks Guys. Yes I will run parallel, although it is not my intention to run the guard around the stern, only down the sides.

Placement of guards on the Tahoe

So it says to take approximate placement of guards from sheet 1 of plans. On the plans the side guards are not parallel to the waterline but fall about 1 inch from forward to aft. I was going to make them parallel! Does it matter one way or the other?

Re: Tahoe 23

Today I faired the transom. It may need some fine adjustment when I lay the deck battens. Waiting on screws so cannot continue with the deck clamps at the momment. While waiting I can start cleaning up the inside of the hull.

Re: Tahoe 23

Yesterday I finished fairing the sheer clamp so it is parallel to the deck beam. My personal choice of weapon to do the bulk of the fairing is a 4" angle grinder with a 120 grit sanding pad. Down side is it gets pretty dusty. I've tried electric and hand plane but the grinder works for me. Toda...

Re: Sydney Barrelback 20'

To raise the deck to allow for thicker cover boards, could you mount the deck battons on the deck beams rather than notched into the deck beams. That would give you 5/8 th of an inch if the battons are the same as the Tahoe.

Re: Tahoe 23

Alan, You do not know how true those words are, but again I guess you do! First day of working on the inside of the boat marking out deck battons and laying out a batton to check on fairing.Forgot pencil, clamps, square, file and as my mum would say "my head" because it wasn't screwed on. ...

Re: Tahoe 23

May not be a stairway to heaven but should make getting in and out of the boat easier. Made this, this morning out of some left-over packing ply.
