That inboard could also be the source of hot water for cabin heat & an aux coil in the water heater. Have not ever seen this done with an outboard

If you still want an ammeter, did you know that you can relocate the shunt close to the original wire path, and run two small wires up to the meter? This is because the meter is actually a volt meter measuring the voltage drop across the shunt. If yours has an internal shunt, then this method would ...

The P-39 & P-63 did that, kinda in reverse. Engine was separated from the drive end like you proposed. Their "drive end" was on the front.

If you use your homebuilt boat for fishing charters, you are likely an Uninspected Passenger Vessel, unless you built a much larger craft than the ones in the Glen-L catalog. Also figure 1/2 pound of fuel per horsepower hour, so 12 HP for an hour requires about one gallon of fuel. If that 120 merc is a 4 stroke, your gallon will get you around 14 HP.

So how fast for how long do you want to go? Half power for an hour will use about 5 gallons on that engine.
