Re: New member Sedalia MO

All my framing is white oak. No problems with it. Of course, if it all flies apart on Saturday I'll let you know.

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Chug, thanks all is well now. I thought I had to have a paddle or something too but I don't see anything about it in the IN boating handbook.

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Well, they ended up calling not long after I wrote that post. I went back over there and they let me skip the line and took care of it. Bill, I think they could make it a little easier. I think the intent is to prevent folks from getting new HINs for stolen boats but was that ever really that big of...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

No luck at the BMV yet. They couldn't figure out how to input everything. My options were: wait there until someone from Indy figured it out, or take off and wait for them to call me. I left because she told me it could take a "long time." I said how long is a "long time." She sa...

Re: Utility build

Honestly, cleaning a 1/2" of water over a small-ish area of your bilge is a small thing compared to trying to move the tubes and the potential damage, delay and heartache that could cause. I think this is just the reality of drain tubes. I'm planning on having an old towel in the garage just f...

Re: 3/8 plywood to 1/4 plywood

I suggest getting Glen's book Boatbuilding with Plywood. It will answer a lot of your questions and a lot of the things in the plans will make much more sense.

Re: 3/8 plywood to 1/4 plywood

One layer of 6 or 7 oz cloth is what most folks go with. Much more than that and you're just adding unneeded weight.

Re: 3/8 plywood to 1/4 plywood

3/8 will bend. If the design says 3/8 then I would stick with that. The fiberglass isn't for added strength. It's basically just hull armor. It protects and waterproofs the hull. The trick for bending in the forward sections is to lay old towels on the plywood and pour boiling water on the towels. L...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Chug, I just installed a fire extinguisher yesterday. Floating piece of rope? I tested the horn a few days ago. Scared the crap out of my wife!

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Dad and I put in a full day today. Things are all coming together. Dad did a lot of sanding for the brightwork. Also installed the swim ladder, switch labels, two hinges, and buttoned up the wiring. Going to get registration completed tomorrow. Dad said he was kinda getting tired of sanding. In my m...

Ah I see. Yes, they certainly could make those helm units a little more streamlined.
