Re: Layout Table

mine was 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF over levelled saw horses.
I found you could rub wax into the mdf and pluck off epoxy drips and boogers.
I'm basically advocating mold release function of the table.

Re: Ridgid 14" bandsaw

I got a cheap chinese import bandsaw, it is all cast iron nonetheless, with roller guides.
I have cut thick, dense wood,
cut thick deep curves,
I have cut plate aluminum,
I found that re-sawing is THE most difficult task of all.

Re: Converting a non-marine 305 and is it worth it

oh yeah, the inboard allows a generous swim platform, thats a no brainer for skiing and tubing.
Besides, is it nicer to hear the inboard V8 growl, or the outboards' whine??? :D

Re: Converting a non-marine 305 and is it worth it

Thanks watkibe! I actually purchased the inboard engine installation book and It should be in this evening. I looked at some outboard models but for what I am wanting as far as look, purpose and of coarse safety. I feel the inboard setup would be better. Besides, I grew up around hot rods and am/wa...

Re: Varnishing Tips

you can block out any paint process, it just depends on how hard it is already dried. Lacquers you could start sanding/buffing in matter of hours, mostly overnite. Enamels nobody would say you could buff out at all, but, if you waited a month, you could actually buff it. 2-part polyurethanes, you co...

Re: Varnishing Tips

In my former life as an autobody painter, I never sprayed varnish, however, I could spray old school enamel with the best of them, much of that experience will carry over to varnish I'm sure. the cure for orange peel was to; up the air pressure, or, thin out the paint. I preferred thin out the paint...

you won't need a hot cam, nor roller rockers, nor any of that just to pull a skier or some tubers.

How many planks to a deck??

some boats have many narrow planks, some have fewer wide planks.
What looks the best?
I ask because the majority of boats with 5-plank or 6-plank topsides garner the most comments.

but what about the deck?

Is there a magic number of deck planks that make it look appealing?

Re: Converting a non-marine 305 and is it worth it

if you talking about marinizing a auto engine, the transmission is the least of your worries.
if you get to that point, all you need is the Borg/Warner bellhousing and proper flywheel drive plate.
All the various transmissions bolt up to that Borg/Warner bolt pattern
