Re: Jet Drive Limits??? Could I actually power 23' boat?

Hello- Just a quick question....What would limit me from sticking a 300+ HP jet drive engine in a, for example, 23' Tahoe? They make some pretty powerful engines now. Looking for some insight. Thanks. what would limit you from that?.......money and aggravation. jets are pricey, and it sits right on...

If I read that correct, 6oz cloth + 3 coats comes out to 7sq ft = 1lb
Correct?

Dwain has a 283 in his, I never heard him speak of any issues.
He always told how easy a build it was.

Re: update on engine troubles - steam/water in exhaust

Good to hear from you, I been wondering how things are going. How is your new prop running? I consider marine wet exhaust as expendable. pricey but expendable. I have had them rusted, leaky, freeze cracked. They never seem to last. The main thing now is "is the engine hurt" ? Cylinders OK?...

Re: Drilling the prop shaft hole.

What kind of bit did you use?
Drill bit? forstner? hole saw?

I them all, and found a hole saw to be the best,
Yes, you need a tear-out block, preferrably on both sides.

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

Kens, I was hoping it would go a bit faster than that!! What do you dislike about this engine? I like American power, we have Lincoin navigator, Ford F 250 diesel, and a Jensen Interceptor that has American power! That I used to drive in the 70s! I can think other engines mopar 440 or 454 but...

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

Guess I will chime in. If you want to go fast, I would suggest a offshore race boat. (cigarette boat). Remember the Wellcraft Scarab boat in Miami Vice? There are two glen l designs that might fit the ticket, The Bandido and the Slot Machine. If you want to go really fast, equip them with twin 502 ...

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

looking at a LBS/HP ratio of 2.5ton per 850hp, I'll open the betting at 60mph.
if you say 2500rpm then I'll bet 39 pitch is over pitch by 14 inches

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

you must define available horsepower to get speed.
speed is a function of HP vs weight

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

as boat size goes up, shaft rpm does not go up as in smaller boats. at least not unless you are going 100mph. Example: the mahogany's at the G might turn a 13x13 and run 30mph with a V8 1:1 gear A big sportfisherman might be 45', run a honkin' diesel with a reduction gear, and turn a 30x30 prop. and...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I also used the back-to-back carbon paper for my half patterns, and I went another step; I got the heavy roll of paper from Home Depot, I think it is used under flooring, almost heavy as card stock. Anyway, I got the carbon paper lines onto the heavy paper, so now I got a full set of my plans, full ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Neel, do you use the pumps for your jugs of epoxy? I do, and graduated the hardener pump stroke with a sharpie marker. Say, if my ratio is 3:1, I marked the hardener pump in 3 increments; this allows me to mix the resin in quantity of 1, 2, or 3 pump strokes. If I wanted a quantity of 4 resin stroke...
