Re: flex coupling question

Jim,, I have one on my Gentry and I know Roberta has one on her Torpedo. I don't have any vibration, but I have never run the boat without the flexible coupling. So I don't know if I would have the same results without it. I guess it's a good thing to have. I got one too.....and also never run with...

Re: Question: Battens on the Barrelback

I started out steaming the canoe strips, then later on gave up on the water part of it.
With the thicker material, maybe just build a 'heat box' rather than a 'steam box'

Re: Question: Battens on the Barrelback

I just finished a stripper canoe, and found out that it is the heat that allows the wood to bend.
The old school method uses steam to transfer the heat to the wood.
I found that a plain heat gun does just as well, at least on the canoe strips.

Re: Tahoe 23 engine/transmission

So the shopping/homework continues... A starboard helm and a hole for the rudder dictate counterclockwise/right hand prop rotation. Since most engines are clockwise/left hand, I looked for in line transmission with full power forward and reverse. I came up with two, ZF-45C and ZF-63C. I didn't find...

Re: Tahoe 23 engine/transmission

Yeah, your missing something. The VelvetDrive can be run in starboard rotation.........provided.........you have a starboard rotation engine. For example, the 1:1 velvet-drive is "output rotation same as input rotation". What that means is if you want r/h rotation shaft you have to have a ...

Re: Weather Forecast

Too early to call if we gonna luck out on this one.
It seems to me that the late season storms tend to go up the Carolina coast and into New England,
Not to mention that the strong storms suck up all the clouds and moisture around the periphery of the storm.
We might be left around the periphery.

Re: Tahoe 23 engine/transmission

Why make things so hard? You bought plans from a naval architect who has many designs under his belt and think you have to change his engine/transmission recommendations to a down angle. I don’t get it. Billy The VelvetDrive type tranny drawn on the plans dates back to the heyday of Glen-l's career...

Re: Tahoe 23 engine/transmission

Where is this ZF63 series tranny with 12* down angle, please advise. The ZF63a series tranny was originally a german Hurth series 630, which in turn was bought out by ZF and renamed to 63a series. To the best of my knowledge it was, and still is, a 8* tranny. Please advise of the 12 * option. Inquir...

Re: Tahoe 23 engine/transmission

Hi,
It seems that the 8* tranny, while setting the engine flatter, but it raises the front end of crankshaft about 1 1/2", correct?, compared to a 0* tranny.
I assuming you looked at the ZF63A tranny for the 8* option.

Which tranny did you look at for the 12* item? Twin Disc?
