Re: Sawford's Zip Build

I am almost finished my Zip and have purchased a new Honda 50hp 4 stroke.
I see from your photos that you have also installed a 50hp. From the video it looks like it went well, what are your thoughts.

Re: Oz zip deck

I am preparing the top deck and have some panels 12" wide of African Blackwood to go around the gunwalls. My question is - Is there a standard way to join the panels (2 joints per side).? I am thinking of cutting at 90 degrees to the sides for 2" and tapering for 10" like the photo below. Any though...

Re: Andy's Zip build

If it is a closed cell foam you wont have to seal it but if open cell, which most foams are, then you will. Personally I would use a coat of epoxy but it is a bit expensive. You could use plastic sheeting if you cal seal it at the joints some how, like shrink wrap. A bit out there but will work. In ...

Re: Oz zip deck

Jeff
I have stacks of photos.
As you can see my build has a very small fwd deck and is open. If there is anything that you are particularly looking for let me know but here is a few to give you some ideas. Send me an email to keith@boatparts.com.au

Re: Andy's Zip build

Andy I see from your photos that you have used a lot of paint on your job.
What type or brand of paint did you use? I am thinking about the interior of my zip.

Oz zip deck

I am at the point where I cut the plywood deck today, getting ready to glue down and then following up with 3/8" mahogany strips. My question is: Is it worth the effort of fibreglassing over the plywood before laying the mahogany or just paint with resin? I don't intend to glass over the mahogany be...

Re: Oliver IV in dry dock

Roberta What timber did you use for your cover boards and would you use it again? It looks like a really nice contrast to the plywood. Did you put any stain in the epifanes or just go strait on over the epoxy? Did you epoxy seal the deck and cover boards when you built the boat? As you can tell I am...

Re: Australian Zip

It has taken me ages to figure out how to reduce the size of the avitar enough to make it work but this is the boat that my zip will be mounted on, on the boarding platform.

Re: Australian Zip

We have chosen the 50hp because we want to be able to pull wakeboarders out. Our current 40hp won't do that any more because the sons in law are getting to big. I don't think the weight will be a problem with the pods on each side. The only problem has been the turn on the engine at full lock and th...

Australian Zip

It is a long time since I did a post so thought I would do a quick catch up. I righted the hull about 2 months ago and have been doing the top sides fairly consistently since. You will see from the photos that my layout is very different from the normal as I want maximum internal space with as much ...

Re: Electric outboards

I looked into the Torquedo electric motors for my zip that is under construction. They are coming out with a 60hp early next year which is going to be very expensive and need a lot of batteries, which means a lot of weight and space, neither of which you want or have in a zip. Great idea though. Hav...

Re: Barra's Zip Update and Qs

When you install the battons for the bottom leave them long as possible to float. I made the mistake of cutting them off at the beams which could cause problems after. Its going to be interesting for you when you start fairing in that small space. Hard to stand back and look from all angles. Have fu...
