Re: Ohio squirt build

Start with reading some threads here about the other Squirt build. This will give you a good overview of the progress. Building the strongback is ofcourse number one, and there you must count inn the extra foot in lenght. The frames is next, and the plans give you full size pattern. You get feedback...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

With the 12 pitch it got easy on plane with the both of us (Me 80 kg, and my son 60 kg) We managed to get 24 knots with the two of us, and my son got 27 knots alone. He tested rpm also to 5500. The manufakturer recomend top rpm between 5-6000 so that is perfect. Tilting is also essential, and we wil...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

The Squirt have got its own shed by the river. Nearly finished :D DSC_1225.JPG The last week have been very gusty, but we have tested it with the new propeller. My son alone got 27 knots and the rpm was measured to 5500. We are satisfied with that with a 15 hp. Below a photo of the little river we f...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Steve, we considered also a 20HP The Suzuki 15 and 20 HP is basically the same motor, and weight the same. The price-difference was 6000 nkr (800 usd) so we chose the 15HP. But it is possible to rebuild the 15HP to a 20HP later. My advice: If you have the money, chose a 20, but look also for a light...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

"looks can be deceiving". Yeah I know... no closeups from us! We did not blow up the Merc, bot it suddenly have som klikking noices and lost all torque. Our new Suzuki is just 4-5 kg heavyer than the Merc. Suzuki have the lightest of the 4-stokes, and this motor can be upgraded to 20...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Time to comment on your result Steve. This boat looks perfect. Real good job. We used a 72 Mercury 200 (20hp) the first runs, but soething went wrong, and we now have a new Susuki. What is the pitch on your prop? Hope you take care not to get too much rpm. I believe that might be what happend to us,...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

We have ordered a 12" pitch My son is just around 60 kg so with him alone it should work, we hope :-) The boat now get on plane in 2-3 sec with the both of us aboard. I will report after we have tested the new propeller.

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

We are on about 3/4 trottle when the limiter kicks in. We are also a little bit unsure if the electronics limit more rpm in the break-in period, so we will talk with the salesman about that. The pitch is only at 9" so I guess we will try 11" or 12"

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

We now have a brand new Susuki 15hp for the Squirt. We have testet it some small trips but it needs breakin, so we do not have top speed yet. I believe we also need a propeller with more pitch, as the rpm limiter breaks inn before top speed. Does anyone have a reomendation for pitch for the Squirt w...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

Oups! seems like the 45 year old Mercury have some problems. It was running wery smooth but suddenly there was a bad ticking sound, maybe a rod og some bearings gone. We had a plan buying a newer motor anyway, so now we have started looking. It is still early spring here and we are happy to have tri...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

It is early spring here, and it starts to get warmer. I do love the contrast between blue water and snow white mountains. This test run was done in the fjord, by the marina I use for my other boats. We live by a brackish water lake that is connected to this fjord by a small current. The lake is 4-5 ...

Re: Squirt build, in northern Norway

First test run today
https://youtu.be/d_0ha2PhFi8
We will make more videos later :D :D :D
We got 23 knots with two persons and an old Mercury 20 hp from 1972. Next time we will experiment with the tilt, to see if we can get more speed, but it feels fast, sitting right on the water :D
