Re: Key West design speed in knots

Thanks Bill- they say the design was 31 knots which seemed a bit slow- but I don't want it breaking up either... ?
What was your max weight number? (With people onboard)?

Key West design speed in knots

What top speed in knots was the Key West hull designed to safely operate?
What is it design cruise speed?
35 knots?
50 knots?
Will be using a 7.4 with ~300 hp and a 1:1 gear.

Thanks
Rick

Carolina Angler fuel burn

Does 28.5 gallons an hour for one 7.4 engine sound about right in normal seas?

(MerCruiser 7.4 MPI - 454 cid 310 hp 28.5 GPH)

Thanks

Re: Carolina Angler Build

I have a donor boat, a limited budget, and I am retired (no income)- my wife has about 5 years left before she retires. I thought I could put together this boat (with 454) and mess around with it here in the river. If I ever made it to salt water I would contemplate a re-power at that point. I am in...

Just section off some voids and fill with foam? Don't know that much about it- haven't googled it yet...

Re: Carolina Angler Build

Geez, I'm glad I am not the only one who has some un-built boat plans laying about...

I don't have much room either- I built the "Monte Carlo" in my garage diagonally....

So, do you feel the Carolina Angler is a capable "offshore boat?"

Re: Carolina Angler Build

I am on the Mississippi River which I can eventually get to anywhere... especially Key West! I like the idea of the little cabin in it. One could sleep overnight without the need for a room. If anyone wants to offer their thoughts on the reduction gear size I will need for a 300 HP 7.4 L velvet driv...

Carolina Angler Build

Hello, has anyone built the Carolina Angler? I've bought the study plans. I would like to see any pictures of it!?

Re: Laminating frames

Thanks for the great answers!
Looking at the Carolina Angler or the Sea Angler- I have a great supply of 7/8" oak- making gluing cheaper- than buying thicker stock potentially.
Just considering all options!

Laminating frames

In order to make my frames thicker (white oak) would it be ok to laminate 2 boards together with west system epoxy to make the frame member thick enough?
Thanks!

Single engine Sea Angler (wing motor)

I am interested in putting a single engine in the "Sea Angler." Do you think I should consider a wing engine? I am not really building this to be a sport fisher- but more of a occasional dive boat- plus a boat my wife and I could run around the Bahamas in... stay overnight in it and save hotel cost...
