Re: adding a rub rail to my Glen-l 15

The width of wood for my rail was 1.5" inches. I used cardboard to get a "close-enough" template and used that template to rough cut my plank about 3" in width. I screwed the plank (future rail) to the shear with some amount of it protruding above the deck at all points, and then...

Re: adding a rub rail to my Glen-l 15

Mike, There's more to installing rubrail around the bow than bending and twisting. In addition to bending the rubrail around, you also must bend it downward. This is extremely difficult and I found this out the hard way on my first build. On my second build I made it easy on myself by making a patte...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Matt, when I glued the Sapele veneer to the plywood planking on my boat, I used SystemThree GelMagic and spread it with a carpet glue trowel, and I think it worked pretty well. I've seen no delamination with use on the water in the hot sun, and I've had no delamination during the recent freezes (the...

Re: Anyone built the Olympian?

It amazes me how you can think of your next boat before you've even flipped your Barrelback, and how you started your Barrelback before launching your Malahini. But I'm glad you're a building because I need to live vicariously through other builders for a while as I have no plans for another boat an...

Re: Squirt in Alabama

I couldn't imagine building my boat with out a bandsaw. Different builders use different tools effectively for accomplishing the same task. It's a personal preference as to what tools you have available and what you're used to working with, and feel safe working with as all these tools have a dange...

Re: Squirt in Alabama

How level is your floor? If it's level everyplace and everywhere, then I don't suppose bolting is necessary. If it's not, then you can still get by without bolting, but you need to mark out a home spot where the building form can be returned to for various tasks involved with the framing. Otherwise,...

Re: Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival

Welcome Jeremy, it would have been great to meet you. Are you local to Madisonville/Louisiana? What are you looking to build, or are building? I know that Butch plans to be at the Tavares Boat Show in March; not sure if I'll make any others besides Madisonville again next year.

What a great gift!

Tom Juring was great fun at the Gathering. I'd grade him an A-1 party animal. But I was really expecting him to post more pics on his Malahini progress.

Where you at, Tom. Hope all's well. Please post pics.
