For the record, I'm in complete agreement with everything Ken has said.

So very happy for you. I know that you've overcome a lot. Completing this boat says so much about your strong character. Congrats, and happy cruising.

Re: sanding between coats of varnish

When wet sanding, you always want a good squeegee at hand and want to rinse and squeegee often; then you'll easily be able to see the sanding marks even when sanding as fine as 1500 grit.

Re: Considering Some Skipjack Modifications

I looked over your build. You did a fantastic job with it! Following your thread and seeing all the pictures, your work is precise and your paint/finish dazzling. I hope the new mast solves the issues. Just looking at that big chunk of rectangular shaped wood you have for a mast now, it's easy to vi...

Re: Upholstery lessons

Good for you, Matt! I want to get one too. I used an old antique industrial machine my brother loaned me, but there's challenges with it and I can't find replacement parts and it needs some. I keep debating whether it's worth the $900 or so. I guess I'm just looking for another upholstery project ar...

Re: Considering Some Skipjack Modifications

I'd bought Skipjack plans a while back. Don't know when or if I'll ever build one. It's good to hear comments regarding it other than the standard glowing endorsements from the Stevenson site. So, are you having a lot of trouble keeping it from capsizing, or will it not hold a straight coarse becaus...

Re: outboard motor

I would think you could since it accepts an I/O, but you may have to do some mods to the transom height and possibly thickness and support, too.

That's convenient to know, Ken. Is the wood dry when you apply the heat gun, or do you soak it first?

Re: Tampa Fl, Checking In.

Nothing wrong with that, Barry, The Roustabout is great looking boat as designed and the outboard will leave you quite a bit more space inside. Thanks for the update.

Re: Tampa Fl, Checking In.

I'd actually ordered the Renegade plans when I began envisioning my build and examined it thoroughly in regards to what I wanted to build. There's a couple of problems with it. 1) Freeboard will have to be added throughout for both appearance and engine clearance, but this might not be too hard. 2) ...

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

Great Work! Yes, Chris Craft sold kit boats. A while back someone posted a link here to their promotional video from the 1950's and it was really neat. Unfortunately, it's been taken down from YouTube and I can't find it anywhere. It showed a family making a decision to mail order the kit and then t...
