Re: TNT w/40 hp merc and WRONG prop
Hey again. I believe its about 20lb. Weight was the reason i went for the pt35 rather then the 130, as i believe the 130 to be significantly heavier. Im amazed at the versatility of this hull. Its obviously not meant for this much power/speed, but with a bit of reinforcement and some caution, it han...

Re: TNT w/40 hp merc and WRONG prop
Thought id give a brief update on my boat. Ended up buying a CMC PT35 power trim unit this summer for the boat. I wish id purchased the pt130 instead in retrospect as i have a 50hp motor and the pt35 is recommended for 35hp and under (imagine that). Anyway, it seems to be holding for the moment, tho...

What i ended up doing was just buying some smart tabs, in hopes that they'll keep the bow down and allow me to get on plane with the higher trim angles. Havnt installed them yet, but will get around to it this week. Does anyone know if an aluminum prop would end up turning much more rpm then a brass...

For the most part, the older the motor, the less it weighs in my expierience. My '64 Merc 500 weighs around 140lbs. A modern 50hp is around 250lbs. My dads 4 stroke 15hp weighs around 135. Sound proofing, emission regs and most of all, power trim and tilt add a lot to a motors weight. Granted, you c...

I did end up jacking it up a tad, but the prop just cavitates when trying to get up on plane with any decent trim. It may be because its a thin bladed brass two blade. I think ill try a 3 blade cupped 17p one of these days and see what happens. I feel like the boat/motor combo has so much more to gi...

Hey, just posted in the other topic there, but i thought id start a new one for this. This link will take you to a pic of my tnt with a Merc 500 on it. Click all sizes for a larger version. Great motor for this boat. Runs around 45mph on gps with a 17p 2 blade brass prop. Take it easy. http://flickr...

Hey again. Sorry, i dont check this nearly enough. I ended up selling the 402 to a local guy for parts. It wasnt a great motor. I still havnt got the boat set up quite as well as id like. Im up to 45mph though. I think I may have my prop cupped to avoid cavitation while getting up on plane. I wish i...

Onwards and Upwards
Sooo, my tnt now has a '64 Merc 500 on it. Before you become too horified, i should mention that it only weighs 141 pounds. It is an incredible motor. I had it out for the first time today. At the moment it has a thin blade 10.5x17p brass "record" prop on it, and that managed to push it to just over...

I've run a Marc 35A & a Marc 55 or 58(been too long, don't remember) & was pleased with performance, stability etc. It's like the TNT was designed for those motors. How ever,Merc 80 was way too much!!!!! Warren Too much weight, or just speed? Theres a guy on the photo page with a new yammie 40hp 4 stro...

Ive heard really good things about the Merc 500's actually. I think its one of the smaller in line 4s ever made. Makes for a very smooth high winding motor. Sort of like ferraris low dicplacement v-12s. Same idea anyway. :p I would avoid the big two cylender mercs, and ive had some issues recently w...

Went out with the GPS tonight to do some runs. Ive got a 40HP with a 15" prop. I would think im underpitched, and the noise that the motor makes when given wot (only for 5 seconds) would seem to confirm this, BUT the GPS is telling me im only hitting 32, which is a little disappointing. Though it fe...

No, nothing on the can. Put it in the water last night after 4 days of drying. I certaintly dont think it was cured, but, such is life. Its a very small boat and takes 20 minutes to paint, and i wanted to do it again anyway in the spring as i did a crap job sanding the epoxy flat. Worked too hard on...
