When I built my modified dodge camper van (listed previously on this site...check it out ), I used 16 guage 3/4 x 1 x 3/4 inch channel for the side framework welded. I sheeted with 20 guage sheet metal. It allowed 1 inch for insulation, but the steel siding added a lot of weight.

Bitter Sweet endings?
I've had an enjoyable lifetime hobby of building boats, and my last "want" was a runabout with a big "honkin" V8. The Gentry seemed the match. We launched Thumper last July and Verna and I had her out on the water 14 times last summer. Built of mahogany with a cherry deck, wheel, dash, and interior,...

Re: Epoxy Sensitivity
Bill; As I've reported before, I became sensitized many years ago and had to change careers because of it. I was afraid I would not be able to continue with my boat building hobby, but after a few years, MAS came out with a low toxin epoxy that has worked for me . I've built the Titan and the Gentry...

Carl; If those are the 32mm European type of cabinet hinges you're using I strongly suggest you do a mock up before you drill any holes. Appears to me they are not mounted correctly. I've used these for years in my cabinetmaking business.

I have a wet/dry vacuum cleaner I use (rarely)! It doesn't leak.

Re: Why Build Boats
I remember sitting inside my completed bare hull on my steel Kaiulani 34 foot sailboat. It was an awe inspiring moment, as if I was inside a giant whale. I'll never forget that moment.

Nee; Been following this build from the start and I have just realized something.(Other than your incredible workmanship!) This in not so much a tutorial on building a Palm Beach, but a first rate detailed tutorial on building a wooden boat....Period. ANY wooden boat. Readers will be thankful for ye...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build
Thanks for posting Neel. Will definitely be a classic show winner. I'm assuming epoxies will be the new casien (sp?) glue?
BTW; I added a 3/16 x 5" epoxy shim to the rear edge of the Gentry and got rid of the porpoising but also cut down on the top end a little. Maybe a little too much shim?

Bill; Just to throw you a curve, when I'm parking my Gentry in the garage (3" clearance!) I use the FRONT trailer hitch I installed on my Ranger!

Filling old deck seams article
This article was featured in the summer edition of the TrentSevern ACBA newsletter. It is by Dwight Boyd, retired builder of Clarion Boats in Campbellford Ontario. Very informative.

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando
Just my input here; Both times I built my own garage/workshop, I clad two trusses both sides with 1/2 " plywood. This allowed me to fasten steel plates to them with eyes protruding through the ceiling. (I always built my own trusses!) Pick your locations carefully for this and you will use the eyes ...

Deno; I use automotive finishing tapes, usually 3M. The 8" discs are Norton, again available from good automotive paint suppliers.

Denon; I have great luck with a CP 8" random orbital air sander. It seems to smooth everything out nicely. Problem is it uses a lot of air.
