Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Nee; Been following this build from the start and I have just realized something.(Other than your incredible workmanship!) This in not so much a tutorial on building a Palm Beach, but a first rate detailed tutorial on building a wooden boat....Period. ANY wooden boat. Readers will be thankful for ye...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks for posting Neel. Will definitely be a classic show winner. I'm assuming epoxies will be the new casien (sp?) glue? BTW; I added a 3/16 x 5" epoxy shim to the rear edge of the Gentry and got rid of the porpoising but also cut down on the top end a little. Maybe a little too much shim? Doug

Re: Which Side Backing?

Bill; Just to throw you a curve, when I'm parking my Gentry in the garage (3" clearance!) I use the FRONT trailer hitch I installed on my Ranger!
Easy Peasy!

Filling old deck seams article

This article was featured in the summer edition of the TrentSevern ACBA newsletter. It is by Dwight Boyd, retired builder of Clarion Boats in Campbellford Ontario. Very informative.

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Just my input here; Both times I built my own garage/workshop, I clad two trusses both sides with 1/2 " plywood. This allowed me to fasten steel plates to them with eyes protruding through the ceiling. (I always built my own trusses!) Pick your locations carefully for this and you will use the ...

Re: Rampage Update 2017

Deno; I use automotive finishing tapes, usually 3M. The 8" discs are Norton, again available from good automotive paint suppliers.

Boat is looking really good in spite of your concerns!

Re: Rampage Update 2017

Denon; I have great luck with a CP 8" random orbital air sander. It seems to smooth everything out nicely. Problem is it uses a lot of air.

I used a zip cut wheel in my angle grinder. Messy but works good.

41st Ottawa ACBS show

Thumper took People's Choice Award at this show held Saturday in Westport Ontario. Quite an honour. Also saw two matching Squirts there from Quebec, built by a couple young friends. Had a long visit with a Cracker Box owner also.
Sorry, camera died on us.

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

PeterG is correct about grain orientation. I would suggest that to make your edge fit easier you use a compass to scribe the next piece to the fixed one Just lay the new one close to the fixed one and scribe a line parallell (sp) to it.
