Did you increase the length of your boat from the planned length?

Modifications question for Little Hunk

For those of you who have built or are in the process (which I will be shortly) of the Little Hunk design, I would like to ask if you've made any modifications to the design and what they may be? I think it's endless what a person can do to this simple dory design but of course, some ideas are bette...

Re: Is this a Glen-L Dory

That's not any of the Glen-L dories such as the Little Hunk, Big Hunk and so forth and I don't recall seeing that design any where else in the catalog. However, that is definitely a sweet little design and it certain moves right along with a small motor. Wow. Now I have to know where that came from.

Re: Trottle move

Years ago I built a hunky dory with a center console that just looked like a larger version of your build. I placed the throttle on the side of the console and yes it took a sharp bend at the console but it worked just fine. I would think you should be able to dummy it up somehow with clamps and see...

Re: Doubling up the frame members size. OK?

I used 1 x 4 CVG (Clear vertical grain fir) for all my structural components on my 20' Little Hunk. With the gaps all filletted and e-glass on the exterior, my boat is plenty strong. also my boat is at 2400 #'s with full fuel and motor. The additional weight is due to the cabin and hardtop. I would...

Re: Anybody building Little Hunk?

Like Darth I'd like to know their reasons. I know it affects cockpit area. I'm committed now on the Bartender. but, I'd like to hear their position. Bill The primary reasons that they give are: Inability to back into oncoming current without bringing water into the boat through the well and that mo...

Re: Anybody building Little Hunk?

I have built a little hunk. I stretched it to 20'. Just let me know if you have any questions or problems, I may have had the same ones. :? Fair winds, Seiner I believe your boat is shown on the Glen-L site? At any rate, I quite admired it, especially how you handled the cabin. Given the weather in...

Re: Doubling up the frame members size. OK?

When you say "common 2x4 stock", are you talking about typical pine boards used in home construction? If so, you may wish to reconsider. To my mind, the thing that makes a good marine quality wood is its ability to hold fasteners and bond using epoxies. This would be especially critical o...

Doubling up the frame members size. OK?

The plans for the Little Hunk call for 1"x 4" frames and with net sizes that will give me frames of only 3/4" thickness. I believe the plans, but I'm thinking seriously of using common 2"x4" stock from lumberyards which will give me a new net of 1 3/4". Finding 4/4 fir ...

Hello from Oregon

Wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm about to get started on building an elongated version of the Little Hunk and will (probably) be installing an older Volvo Penta 4 cylinder with a VP outdrive. My plan is to lengthen the hull three feet to 21'. My son and I built the Hunky Dory about 20 y...
