Re: GeorgeD Zip Update (UK)

Hi Roberta, Thanks! Luckily the sun came out and the temperature shot up just in time for me to say that "next summer" definitely means 2013. I had a long time off building the boat for various reasons but I've got a renewed enthusiasm, so hopefully can maintain some momentum. Your build is a major ...

Re: Hello from Cambridgeshire, UK.

Hi Marcus, Look forward to seeing your progress. I'm down in Hampshire (near Fleet / Basingstoke) and have been building a Zip on and off since 2008. I couldn't have done any of it without this forum and the great people on here, so you are in the right place! Please share names of any UK suppliers ...

GeorgeD Zip Update (UK)

Hi All, It's been a long time since I posted as progress has been slow over winter, but here are a few more pics to prove that I am still going with my Zip build... Added main deck beams / frames… http://www.hartdale.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Boat1-300x225.jpg http://www.hartdale.co.uk/b...

Re: Zip Flip (UK)

Thank you for all your kind words and support. Champagne, beer and cake enticed enough "flippers" to make it go without a problem. We didn't put too much weight on the sheer to make sure we avoided any snapping noises.

Now just need some £££ for more wood and an engine!

Re: UK Zip Progress (at last)

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Your boats all look fantastic and are an inspiration. You just build way too quickly for my liking :) Here are a few more pics of the last couple of days progress... Final coat on. It doesn’t look great on close inspection, but it will have to do (I refu...

UK Zip Progress (at last)

Hi all, Long time...I hope everyone is well and all your boats are turning out how you wish them to. One of my last posts back in June 2010!!! stated that I was getting ready to paint. Well today I finally got the undercoat on. I used International Paint Perfection Undercoat. The photo doesnt show t...

Re: Paint / Quantity for Zip

Thanks Buckeyesmith. Great boat and great photo gallery you have - shows I've a long way to go though. In preparation for painting I'm using West 410 Microlight filler to help get a good surface and iron out all my lumps and bumps. It goes on easily, a small amount covers a large area and it sands s...

Re: Paint / Quantity for Zip

Thanks for your quick response. I like the look of Supermarine paint but I can't find it for sale over here in the UK. Crikey, half a gallon is about 2.5 litres by my reckoning, so that's £200 just for the hull paint and primer. The wife and kids might have to go without food and clothes for a few w...

Paint / Quantity for Zip

Hi all, I'm just about back on track after repeated setbacks (due to health and work hassles) and at last I'm getting close to painting my Zip. I am thinking of using International/Interlux Perfection for the sides and hull (boat will be in the sea for maximum of a daylight day at any one time), as ...

Re: West system 207 hardener?

Hi All, Recent experience has shown me that 205 is much better if I dont go too vigorously with a roller. I read somewhere that this puts too much air bubbles into the epoxy which makes it go cloudy (I read this AFTER I should have!). If I go slow with the roller the result seems to be much clearer,...

Re: West system 205 vs. 207 hardener

Thanks for the encouragement Bruce. I sit in wonderment(?!) at how some of you guys get the finish you do.

Not sure I have your patience though.

I am already 2 years into my build and want to get in the water before my kids leave home (they are currently 5 and 3 years old)!

Re: West system 205 vs. 207 hardener

Wish I'd known about 207 a few weeks ago too!

Looks like I will now be painting my foggy transom now too.

Next time I will RTFM before I jump in and use the wrong can.
