Re: Primer for wr-lpu paint.

Hi Bryan: I would think that a gallon of primer is more than enough on the Malahini, especially if you spray it. Since I was spraying wr-lpu over System Three epoxy, I didn't need the primer to give my paint bite. I also wasn't intending to use it in the areas where my craftsmanship was less than to...

Re: Who's Going and Where

Unfortunately, Leda and I won't be able to make it this year either. Like others in the past that have missed Gatherings, we have a wedding that we must go to (my niece) or else risk being disowned. (LOL!) I give her grief that out of 52 weekends in a year, she had to pick the weekend of the Gatheri...

Passing of MannanJ

It is with great sadness that I am informing those of you who have been to one or more of the last 3 Gatherings that one of the aspiring builders has passed away (June 16th). His name was Mannan Thomason. He was an older gentleman who was also into home built airplanes. He was just starting the buil...

Re: Hales Bar Cabins Reservation List

Bob and Leda Sorci will be in land cabin #2 and we should be there early enough Thursday to join Neel and the gang for dinner.

Bill:
Hales Bar for some reason had us booked in floating cabin #2. You may want to call and verify that you are in fact booked in that one.

Ray:

The tags you created for Bob and Leda Sorci last year will work again for us this year. Our build is still in progress.

Thanks for doing this.

Re: Greetings From Ohio

I grew up in the Cleveland area (Wickliffe) and spent my youth on Lake Erie in a 16' fiberglass boat. I am also building the Malahini. Based on these two facts, I would suggest seriously considering something with a deeper 'V' as well. But no matter what your choice, the many builders and others on ...

Re: Malahini chine help please

Gd/Bob: I went out to the shop briefly before work WITH my wife to look and contemplate a little. She suggested to hold off on tearing the chine out for now as well. It won't take much time to try a repair method of some kind first. We will then finish fairing between frames 3 and 4 and evaluate the...

Re: Malahini chine help please

Bob: I also don't feel comfortable with this situation, but I was holding out some hope that someone could convince me that there is a solution other than cutting out the chine and trying again. This build has been the most challenging hands-on project I've ever attempted, but I will finish it regar...

Re: Malahini chine help please

And another challenge arises........... I started the fairing process months ago, doing the sides first, and now am working on the bottom from transom moving forward. I got to the area of frame 4 (the one just before the stem) and ran into a potentially major problem. The angle of the frame is prett...
