Anyone put a hardtop or Bimini on their boat?
The sun is pretty harsh over here in Australia, just looking for a stylish way to add some shade without destroying the look

Re: Roberta's Torpedo
That is unbelievable!!!
Initially, when you first started the build I didn't think the shape of the boat suited my tastes, but wow!! as it has come along I've come to love the shape. One of the most beautiful boats I have seen. Amazing!!

Re: Sydney Australia - costs and help
You just have to make sure the engine is marinised, otherwise the risk of a fire or explosion become much higher. If the engine doesn't have these modifications it becomes an expensive job to modify. The other thing is that generally a boat engine will work harder then a car engine, so some will arg...

Re: Need help on peel ply
The other thing is wait until the epoxy has definately set hard before peeling off, you don't want to damage the bond between glass/timber as you pull off.

Re: Squirt Build in Australia
I used hoop pine, but was talking to a pro boat builder mate the other day. I says he just uses meranti from bunnings for his own boat. Cheap (relatively) and easy to get.

Re: Barra's Zip "Helen" Launched
Well done mate, Looking forward to hear what speeds you get from the 50hp. I guess you've still got another few hours to put on the clock until you can have a burst of full throttle.
Boat looks brilliant.

Re: Bullet Build Time
I built the Flying Saucer (14ft boat) in 250 hours. Still took about 9 months in real time.
Everyone is different depending on experience, tools available and quality of build.

Re: Barra's Zip Update and Qs
I've just shifted my tank vent. It was on the starboard side about 4" below the gunnel, just forward of the driver. I found at times it could get some spray so have shifted it on to the transom. I never had issues, but just think the risk was too great. It could wreck your day if you get stuck with ...

Re: Porpoising help
I explained it on my build thread too, but just thought I'd post it here incase anyone comes across it whilst searching down the track. I've had a win! I've managed to resolve the porpoising issue. I flipped the boat and refaired the aft 3ft of the bottom. Most of it was good, but the last 6inches n...

Re: Aussie Flying Saucer
I've had a win! I've managed to resolve the porpoising issue. I flipped the boat and refaired the aft 3ft of the bottom. Most of it was good, but the last 6inches needed some filling. I added up to a 1/4" in places. The boat now rides beautifully. I still have the smart tabs, but keep them up unless...

Re: Jet Squirt in the Med.
With the engine weight forward and then the passenger weight also forward it will likely be too heavy in the bow.

I suspect it will porpoise badly with that much weight on the back.

I don't think any of us can complain about the size of our sheds, look at this poor bloke "Big problem. I am old man. No money. No material. I walk on Russian street. Look wood. Look metal." He unfolds a well-fingered photo of a minute but fully rigged sailboat lashed to the side of an apartment bui...

Re: Bullet
I'm getting close to 35mph with a 30hp on a 550lbs flying saucer. The bullet will be a fair bit lighter then this. She will be very fast for a little boat with 40hp. I'm guessing 50mph wouldn't be out of the question.
