Re: GERONIMO'S windshield

Hi Bob, I recently made my templates for the windshields. You can see them on page 10 of "neeley's barrelback sacramento" link by my name below. The outer brackets won't be attached until I get the glass. ( I don't want any problems at installation, so I will put the glass into the fixed c...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Matt, The whole boat is sapele. I stained the whole boat. The king planks are sapele stained with dark walnut stain. The grain shows through just fine once you put the clearcoat on top. Here's a picture of some sapele scraps that were stained and varnished to use as practice for my caulking. If you ...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Hi Matt, I used interlux criscraft mahogany #573 filler stain. (one of the best stains I have found) The most important thing I think is to use filler stain or gel stain not the thin stuff. If you look at my build pictures you can see the reddish color on my boat. I had light sapele planks on my rea...

Re: Another Geronimo Coming Soon

Matt,
What you came up is really slick! One thing I really like about this forum, is that you see the solutions that others come up with. I will file your idea in my memory for future reference.
Well Done!!!

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Tracy,
This is what I use. It folds up for storage and can be easily moved around the boat. Lowe's also sells a three step version.

Re: I tried to use a hand saw once....

Hi Joe, If you have the will, you can do it. Looking at the whole boat can be overwhelming. It was for me. What I found is the the building of a boat is broken down in to different processes. Just get one thing done and then move on to the next. Along the way, you will acquire skills and confidence ...

Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

Thanks guys!
I was able to caulk 1/2 of the rear deck before I ran out of caulk. More caulk was ordered today. I figure it will take 9 tubes of caulk altogether. I still need to caulk the other side and the hatch covers. Everything is masked, so I am ready to go when I get the caulk.

Re: Neeley's Barrelback - Sacramento

Today, I caulked the seams on the bow deck. I really like the caulk I used. (boatlife polysulfide Life-Caulk) It went on smoothly with the cordless caulk gun Bill showed to me. To spread the caulk, I tried a plastic spoon, finger in sandwich bag, and nitrate gloves. What I found was that my finger w...

Re: Introduce myself

Welcome! - from another California Builder.
If I ever build another boat, I think it will be a sail boat like you are thinking about.
I learned to sail in Mission Bay, CA in a small sailboat. I really enjoyed it!

Re: Michael's ZIP

Mike,
Here is an item that is useful for ripping thin strips. It's dangerous to rip thin strips on the "fence side" of the blade. This jig cuts the thin strip of the outside of the blade. See pic.
