Re: Researching building the Hercules

Hi John, I am just about complete with my build of a Hercules, I am a couple of hundred miles north of you in Heriot Bay, Quadra Island, off Campbell River BC. I'd be more than happy to correspond with you should you go ahead with this project. I built mine more or less according to the plans but be...

Square drive every day, and that's not just because I'm a Canadian!

Re: New Hercules builder

Hi Chris,
Yes as far as I recall, it's been some time now!, I did shape the stem for the planking. Down the road you may wish to "flatten" the prow edge in order to take a sacrificial cutwater.

Re: New Hercules builder

Hi Chris,
I am getting towards the end of my HERCULES build and hope to launch later this year. If I can be of any help at any stage of your build please let me know.
Good luck,
Graham

Handrails or lifelines?

Hi folks, Now that I'm gradually creeping towards the end of my GL HERCULES build, my thoughts are turning towards safety. I will be carrying up to 5 grandchildren ages 5 to 13, and although the plans don't show forward deck rails I feel that I need them. Since I live in the boonies or outback on an...

Re: Propane-powered outboard

Thanks Bill, my thought is that on my G-L Hercules I would mount the tank [fiberglass by the way] on the swim platform I intend having.

Propane-powered outboard

Hi folks,
Does anyone have info/experience re Lehr propane outboards? Seems to me that with appropriate safe storage of the propane container they would make a lot of sense.

Windshield wipers or not?

Hi folks:
Has anyone tried these new hydrophobic glass treatments that don't allow water accumulation instead of conventional electric wipers? As my construction of the HERCULES slowly progresses I'm interested in anything that will save time and effort.
Thanks, Graham

Testing diesel before launching

Hi guys, This may be an absurd question but at 70 I reckon I can absorb the flack. Can I test my diesel. transmission, prop shaft, prop etc while my Glen-L "Hercules" is still on its trailer and on dry land? Obviously some water connections would be needed, but is it possible and/or advisable or not...

Fiberglassing with epoxy over stained alaska/yellow cedar

Hi everyone, I've completely encapsulated my G-L HERCULES from the spray line upwards to the gunnels with bead and coaved yellow cedar. What a job-never again. Anyway that's not my issue here. The final product is much too bland in appearance therefore I'd like to darken the wood perhaps to a cherry...

wood-like cutwater

Hello folks, I am trying to maintain as much wood or wood appearance as possible on my G-L HERCULES, for example I have applied yellow[alaska] cedar over the hull above waterline. I like the idea of a cutwater, but certainly not made of stainless steel. Is a wooden one feasible/possible/practical? O...

Cleaning epoxy pumps

Hi folks,

For those of you using pumps to dipense resin and hardener, what solvents do you use to periodically clean the pumps?

Thanks,

Graham
