Re: Long term issues, varnish over epoxy
On my Flying Saucer, I used System 3 spar varnish on the deck over Interlux Chris Craft stain/sealer. I just stained the deck for my new Zip with Cetol mahogany. I'm wondering what you folks think of approx. 2 coats of System 3 mirror coat epoxy over the stain finished off with about 6 coats of Tota...

Trailer recommendations for a ZIP
This seems impossible but I just looked up my last post and it was in August, 2015 ! It's nice to see a few familiar names. Five years ago, I just finished a Flying Saucer, the Yellow Submarine II, which was my 1st build of a boat or anything. That summer I also started a ZIP which is 90% done and 5...

Re: What is half way point on a build?
Building a boat attracts a lot of attention and people are always asking when it will be done. I usually tell them it's 90% done and 50% to go.

Re: What is half way point on a build?
On my Flying Saucer, the flip was the half way point. I'm about ready to flip my Zip and my wife knows what to expect this time. I made the mistake of telling her I was almost done at the flip with the 1st one. She is more involved with building this time which helps a lot. It's better to stick with...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota
Hi Steve,
The Squirt looks great. Nice flat turns in the video.
I have seen Steve's Squirt in person and it is beautiful.
Congratulations on a great job, Steve!

Re: Utility build
Hi Barnacle, Your utility is beautiful - nice job! That foam shot is amazing. How much of what brand made that monster mushroom? My Flying Saucer has a 13 gal. fuel tank in the bow and a battery and life preservers behind the back seat. I have no idea how to add flotation?

Re: Squirt in Minnesota
Hi Steve, Welcome back. It looks like your new house has a work shop. Your wife must be happy to have it out of the family room. I like the way you ran that steering cable up through the deck and the stripes look good too. I think I told you at Gull Lake that the Yellow Submarine was finished and t...

Re: ACBS International in Brainerd
If there were any people at this show that had not heard of Glen-L, they will most likely never forget the name again. These 2 boats are absolutely beautiful. Of course, Roberta's award is well deserved and her torpedo is amazing. However, the lack of an award for the Bonnie Dean has to be an oversi...

Re: Zip transom bevel
Thank you for your kind words.
Roberta, I'm honored that you think I could be in a show with your boat. Maybe the Zip nest year. However, Kathy and I are planning on going to that show and we hope to meet you and see that fantastic Torpedo in person.
Thanks again to all of you,
Steve

Re: Zip transom bevel
As promised, pictures of the Yellow Submarine II after it's return from 6 weeks in a Lake Okabogee shop. I started my Flying Saucer on 2/25/14 and finished it yesterday morning. Kathy and I took it on a shakedown cruise on the St. Croix River yesterday afternoon. The Yellow Submarine One was named b...

Re: Zip transom bevel
Thanks guys,
It sounds like both of you had pretty good luck with pre-beveling. It would have been interesting to see that giant router bit in action. I like the sound of that 7 degree final angle too.

Re: Zip transom bevel
Thanks you very much for the help. It's a sentence at the bottom of page 2 in Building the Zip. It is right by the part that mentions the 12 degree angle at the bottom of the transom. I missed that on my Flying Saucer and it took a lot of fairing on the transom sides. Speaking of my Flying Saucer, w...
