Re: Squirt in CT

I was pretty nervous taking dye to the sapele, but it seems to have worked out well. I applied three coats of Red Mahogany dye using a foam brush. The finish looked a bit splotchy in some areas, but they disappeared after I put down the first coat of epoxy. IMG_1366.JPG IMG_1375.JPG Tomorrow I'll be...

Re: Squirt in CT

Hoping to get the boat in ridable shape for the gathering. Would it be okay to leave the bottom unpainted for the weekend? It have 8 or 9 coats of epoxy on the bottom, and I would like to drive it at the gathering, and then take it back home and finish it off.

Thanks

Re: Squirt in CT

Just an update. With just over a week before my forced completion date, I have been working ferociously (but hopefully not hastily) to finish off my squirt. Over the last week I bought, milled and fit the decking in place over the subdeck. I'm using Sapele as the perimeter and kingplank(?), and phil...

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Got it. I have all my boards cut out and screwed, and am debating whether I should stain first or glue first. I don't think I'll be using a rub rail.

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Did you also stain the sides of it? As in the 1/4" that would be on the side under a rub rail.

Re: Squirt in Minnesota

Looks great!

Did you stain it before or after you epoxied it to the deck?

Re: Bow Handle

That one on the right looks interesting. Think it would work on the squirt bow? I'll be tying it to the trailer winch

Bow Handle

Hello,

I'm looking for a bow handle for my squirt, but my searches have only turned up the Perko handle. http://www.amazon.com/Perko-1234DP0CHR- ... B002FVTKZI

What are some other sources of bow handles?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: aluminum procurement

Haha, we have always had golden retrievers, and they sometimes get hotspots on their skin. We found one on his tail after getting him groomed, so he was in the cone for a week. He was pretty depressed that week.

Re: aluminum procurement

Thanks for the help, guys! I'm building the squirt. My transom is 3/4" marine ply with a 1/4" okoume veneer. When I mounted the 20 hp (115lb) engine, the motor bracket left indentations on the transom. I'm worried that over time the bracket will pierce the fiberglass and epoxy, leaving the plywood v...

aluminum procurement

Hello,

I'm looking to get a 12"x12" aluminum plate to fit between my transom and motor. What type of aluminum should I get, and where can I buy it?

Thanks,
Mike
