Re: Chain Plates Location
Most of the photos on the Glen-L website show the chain plates on the coaming (on the inside) and one has them on the side planking. I built the Glen-L 13 and the plans for it have them bolted through the side planking (with blocking). I would have thought the side planking would be stronger than th...

Re: Sailboat Size Question for family of 7
I built a Glen L 13 and my partner and I have 4 kids between us. Her two kids (9 and 12) are very small for their age, as is my eldest (14) with my youngest (11) the only one of normal size. My partner and I are both slim. We all fit into the boat quite well. The 13 doesn't feature seating in the pl...

Re: Tango centerboard?
On the Glen-L website under the additional specifications and photos page it lists the ballast weight as 1" steel CB. I got a 300 mm x 300 mm x 6 mm steel plate (that I encased inside my centreboard of my Glen-L 13) fabricated from a general steel fabricators. Surely you can just ring around your lo...

Re: fore deck butt joint over strong back?
Shouldn't it get faired back so it will take the 1/4" decking? I built the Glen-L 13 and I remember having to fair the strongback. Maybe I'm not understanding your question?

Re: A Different Minuet from the UK
I don't think I'd like to be in one if it went turtle over. And I think you'd get a sore back and neck based on the position you're forced to sit in. Other than that, they'd be fun to sail.

That's sounds like an awful ordeal. Well done for pulling it off.

Re: adding a rub rail to my Glen-l 15
I wrapped towels around and poured boiling water over the members I needed to bend and twist. I left them to sit for about 15 minutes or until they become more supple. Then I removed the towels, bent into place and drilled the screws. They were left to dry out and then they were undrilled, epoxied a...

Re: Glen L 13 build photos
It probably would have helped if I'd read the book, but I only had the plans to go off and my lack of experience. If it fails I'll fix it up. I wonder how much life I'll get out of it.

Re: New Glen-L 14 Build
I only had the one drill, an electric one, but I found I could drive the silicon bronze screws easily enough by hand after a coat of soap and a properly predrilled hole. When I did it this way I had no issues at all and the screws bedded into the substrate perfectly.

Re: Glen L-10 Splash Guard
I didn't bother adding one to my Glen l 13 simply because I couldn't have been bothered after all the work in getting to that stage and I just wanted to get on the water sooner. It hasn't been needed anyway. I was thinking about gluing down strips of ply and building up laminations to get the correc...

IMG_20160113_122915180.jpg Decking added, didn't follow the plans though. I went for a plywood saving option and so far I haven't had a problem with it. IMG_20160118_105344156.jpg I built a launching dolly for her as I needed to move house. I've since changed the wheels for larger ones. IMG_2016011...

Re: Glen L 13 build photos
IMG_20151222_173915798.jpg I built a flipping frame for her and disassembled the building frame while in place. IMG_20151222_180151635.jpg Flipped, and all by myself! Since I was building in a single car garage I had very little room. I pushed the frame and boat as far as I could to one wall (with ...
