Re: Mini Laser-Cut Boat

I have a Carvewright woodworking CNC that might be perfect for making a pattern. If anyone is interested, once I get the shop set up (in the next couple weeks), I'd be happy to make something to be used for someone as a trial. I am NOT looking to make any money off this and right now I have plenty o...

I'm in Florida, of course it will :D

I'll have a window unit just to keep it somewhat comfortable during the summer. But the shade and luxury of not having to carry tools/materials in and out every time I work on the boat are a God send.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Those TDYs always come up at bad times. I just returned from a week long TDY to Laughlin AFB, could have been working on the shed but no, Air Force needs come first!

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Couple photos of the finished boat shed. Interior painting will be wrapped up by this weekend, then watch out. I don't know where all my power tools will be sitting, so for now, just extension cords running through the rafters.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

I notched the transom before laminating it and placed the battens roughly parallel to the keel. Marked their location, then cut the frame notches. I did laminate a couple of the longer battens, locating the joint as far aft as possible. You'll have a pretty wicked bend in them up near the bow, so av...

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Nice, but how do you pull the camper and boat? Passed final inspection yesterday. Power went in last week, but no 220, yet, but need it for my table saw & dust collector. Want to paint inside walls/floor first then do electrical. Probably going to be a lot of cords until I figure out where I wan...

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Will look into that Bill. I'll need to build them regardless, even if on the cradle.

Thanks for the tip!

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

I did cut it to 14 degrees, but because of the size of the transom, I used a jig saw and left it proud by about an 1/8th inch. While fitting the battens, I trimmed to final size then attached them.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

You're making great progress Conrad and will be caught up to me in no time. This was the exciting part of the build for me so far, seeing it take shape and starting to get a feel for the size. After the flip, you'll really appreciate how much room is in it.

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Not yet. TDY this week then a few odds n ends to be able to call it complete. Hopefully this weekend I'll have the bulk of it done and final inspection early next week, a couple honey-dos then back on it. I bought a trailer for it but I'm afraid it may be to high to climb in and out, so most likely ...

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

It is. I bought a trailer for it last year to move from Orlando to Panama City. But it sits too high to work in side the hull so I'll move it back to the build cradle when I'm ready to start.

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Sure Kelly, now you offer after the hot & sweaty work is done

Only thing left is the siding, which I should get a good start on this weekend.

Here's an update (doesn't show the facia/soffit installed.

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Should start putting siding up on the boathouse this weekend, and at my rate of progress, it might take a month to finish. Then it's back to the FF build. And I think you'll probably finish firsts at my pace :D

Re: Flats Flyer Build in Orlando

Conrad, Never thought about it. This is my first real effort building a project of this size and wanted to be cautious, so I only extended it per the plan recommendations. At 19'-9", it should be plenty for my needs, maybe a little more than needed, but you can never have enough boat. Going out...
