Re: gorilla glue

From the company's description, it sounds similar to 3M 5200 but it does not state if it is a polyurethane. It also states it can be painted which also makes me think it is not a polyurethane. I personally would prefer a polyurethane as I feel they are superior - but that's just my opinion. I have r...

Re: Interesting Wood Find

The only problem with that is one more boat would mean one less wife!

I'll have to give it some more thought. :)

Interesting Wood Find

Had a friend tell me his daughter was removing wood covering an 8’ x 20’ interior wall for remodeling. It was tongue & groove like flooring a little less than 3/4" thick. They were throwing it all in the dumpster and knowing I am a scrounger said I could have it if I wanted to go get it. He said the...

Re: gorilla glue

On my now 18 year old Cabin Skiff I used Gorilla Glue on one joint - the skeg. It is the only glue joint that has failed on the well used boat. In my estimation, if you don't want to use epoxy, Titebond 3 is far superior. A few years back I believe it was Wood Magazine that did glue stress testing a...

Re: Why Build Boats

For me that "memorable" moment during construction of the True Grit was when I completed the framing for the inverted hull and stood back and looked at the robust yet gracefully sweeping lines of the wood structure I had created. I have built a lot of things big and small but nothing matched the fee...

Why Build Boats

I recent news item caught my interest. The story concerned the annual reenactment of Washington crossing the Delaware River in 1776. It mentioned this year boats were being provided by the Philadelphia Waterborne which is a non profit that teaches boat building skills to middle and high school stude...

Re: In hull Transducers

Here is a link to a little info on my Cabin Skiff blog concerning a transducer I moved from the transom to the hull interior. Been there 16 years now and a lot of miles with no problems. Also used this method for a bow transducer on my True Grit. I was too cheap to buy one of the "real" thruough the...
