Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

In Tarpon Springs, we took a guided tour of Safford house. This belonged to one of the early residents of Tarpon Springs and has period furniture. IMG_20191211_112704.jpg IMG_20191211_114821.jpg After leaving the Safford house, we walked a block to the Spring Bayou and then onto old downtown Tarpon ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

There is a bike/walking trail on an old railroad bed that runs from Tarpon Springs thru Dunedin and on to Clearwater. IMG_20191210_133004.jpg At Dunedin, the old railroad depot has been turned into a museum with displays on the early years of Dunedin. IMG_20191210_144846.jpg We spent the whole day s...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

Noreen had a hard time choosing which one she liked best. IMG_20191209_130721.jpg Clearwater Beach is mostly tee shirt shops, bar/restaurants, and high rise condos. There were several places to access the beach as we walked along the street. IMG_20191209_144707.jpg Tuesday we took the trolley again ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

We have been playing tourist since we arrived in Tarpon Springs. There is a trolley bus that stops about 50 yards from where we are docked at the city marina. This trolley goes South through Dunedin and all the way to Clearwater Beach and only costs $2.50 to ride all day for seniors. IMG_20191210_12...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

The city was having a Christmas tree lighting ceremony that featured live music. I can't believe we are on the boat in Florida. Life is good with 75+ degree temperatures. We plan on staying in Tarpon Springs for a few days before moving on further South.

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

The winds were predicted to be 10-15 mph with waves 1-2 feet for the next 3 days so we took off early the next morning Dec 5th for Steinhatchee. We would be over 50 miles off shore and out of sight of land for most all of the day. IMG_20191205_062506.jpg We were getting some spray on the windshield ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

Before heading back to the boat for the evening, Noreen had to check out one last store. IMG_5874.JPG The inside of the store had an antique tin ceiling that was interesting. IMG_5875.JPG We only stayed one night before moving on to Carrabelle. Upon arriving a C-Quarters marina in Carrabelle, I fuel...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

We stopped in Pensacola at Palafox marina near the downtown. We walked around the downtown and visited the historic St. Michael's cemetery. One of the early residents of Pensacola was a lumber baron Daniel Sullivan whose monument is the largest in the cemetery. Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

We left the Wharf marina in Orange Beach Alabama on Nov 29th heading East along the panhandle of Florida with a destination of Pensacola. IMG_5867.JPG Shortly after entering Florida, sand dunes were along the waterway. IMG_5868.JPG Before reaching Pensacola, some one had a bad day of boating. IMG_20...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

Yes, I check active captain. Some of the reviews are getting a little old but still good info. The boat with full fuel and water is nearly 12000 lbs. I had hoped to be under 10000. Owe well but we are comfortable. I generally don't add any more than 50 gallons of water as we are staying most nights ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

You are definitely right to avoid any winds from the NW, N, NE when crossing the gulf stream. I also want to have a buddy boat along for the crossing. The boat has operated perfectly and has seen rougher water than I had expected. The only small issue was a wire burnt off at a connector to the water...

Bill

We will be at the Wharf for about another week so would be glad to meet up for lunch. We don't have the rental car any longer so we would have to bum a ride with you guys.

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

On the last day we had the rental car, we drove over to Fort Morgan at the mouth of Mobile Bay. This fort was finished in 1834 and was built of brick and mortar mostly with slave labor. It was used up until the end of WWII. IMG_5854.JPG IMG_5847.JPG IMG_5856.JPG We will stay at the Wharf marina for ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

The Pensacola lighthouse is located near the Naval Museum so naturally we had to stop and check it out also. IMG_5837.JPG There were 177 steps to get to the top of the lighthouse and I finally made it to the top after several rest breaks. I soon realized I am no longer a teenager as I gasped for air...
