Re: New on Forum

My wife is from Granville. She still has family living there so we go to Granville every year. Maybe this summer when we are visiting her family, I could drop by and see your build.

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

I continued down river staying the last night at Cuba's Landing Marina. Along the river, there are lots of houses with some built in areas that flood when the river rises so those houses are built up on tall foundations or pilings to prevent flood damage. IMG_4481.JPG The last day was spent boating ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

I stopped for two nights at Florence Harbor Marina just down river from Wilson lock. This marina has a nice attached restaurant with very nice staff. One of the local staff members was waiting at the dock to collect when I pulled in. IMG_4472.JPG The entrance to Florence harbor was easy to spot. IMG...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

Most of the locks had a 40'-50' lift except Wilson lock which was over 90' lift. IMG_4459.JPG The big lock on the Tennessee River is Wilson lock. This lock and dam was built to supply electricity for making ammo for WW1. At Florence Alabama, there is a visitor center near the Florence Harbor Marina ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

After spending three nights at the Gathering, it was time to head back down river to the van and trailer. Going down river, my speed was 2-3 mph faster than going upriver at the same engine rpm. This really helped on fuel usage as I was able to get back to the trailer without buying anymore expensiv...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

I had to wait for three hours to get through the Guntersville Lock so I just hung out below the dam waiting for the barges to lock through. The current below the dam was strong as they were releasing water through the gates in addition to water going through the powerhouse generating electricity. IM...

Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-Gathering 2018

I decided to go to the Gathering this year by water instead of trailing the boat to Hales Bar. I launched the boat at Kentucky Dam Marina near Paducah Kentucky on Sept. 7th. Hales Bar was 408 miles and 5 locks upstream from the launch site so it would take me 7 days to get there. The first couple of...

Re: G-12 Gathering 2018 Dates and Location

I left on Friday from Kentucky Dam Marina on the Tennessee river near Paducah Kentucky. So far I have run 310 miles up river and have about 100 more miles to get to Hales Bar. Should be there on Thursday with my True Grit

Re: Coastal Cruiser vs. True Grit

I think that mrintense thought process was very similar to mine when I chose the Evinrude outboard for power. I didn't want anything taking up space in the cockpit area. I did slant my windshields forward 6 degrees. See pictures in my build thread. This can be changed to most any slant forward or ba...

Re: Coastal Cruiser vs. True Grit

I think it all boils down to how many creature comforts that you want out of a boat less than 30' or more important how many your wife wants. Also one needs to look seriously down the road, what is the main purpose or use of the boat. All three of the designs, will require a lot of man hours and a f...

Re: Who's Going and Where

I plan on coming with my True Grit and staying on the boat. I will be launching at the Kentucky Dam Marina and coming 425 miles on the river so will arrive sometime Thursday.

Re: Coastal Cruiser vs. True Grit

I built the True Grit and launched it in 2017. See my build blog and also read my three trip reports under Misc. I modified the hull length to 29'6" and also added a swim platform. The cabin is my own design as I wanted something that would provide reasonable living area in a 30' boat. Yes, I plan o...

Re: Mini Adventure

JimmY Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing. Maybe if we get more cruising reports, a separate heading will be needed for trip reports/logs. On my bucket list of cruising area's is starting in the Sandusky area on Lake Erie and the going around the Bass Islands and up the Detroit River...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream", a True Grit design-Cumberland River

The final night on the river was spent at Kenlake Marina which has a very good restaurant onsite. IMG_0734.JPG The last couple of days on the river got hot with highs in the low 90's so I ran the generator and air conditioner as we cruised. After being on the rivers for 11 days and traveling 535 mil...
