Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

When we left the boat in Jacksonville on March 5th, we planned to head back to Florida at the end of March to continue on up the East coast. We have been forced to put our travels on a temporary hold by the corona virus. So the new plan now is to stay home for another month and go back to the boat a...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

The distillery had 3300 barrels stored in another building so this is not a small operation. IMG_20200302_141750.jpg The San Sebastian winery located nearby also had a tour and wine tasting of their selections so we could not pass this up. After the winery tour we headed back to the boat, since Kens...

While in St Augustine, another Glen-l boatbuilder paid us a visit, Ken Schott or better known as Kens. After checking out the boat, off we headed to the winery and distillery. The distillery is located in a 1907 former ice plant. IMG_20200302_141155.jpg IMG_20200302_143129.jpg Some of the selections...

The Lightner Museum is located across the street from Flagler college. The museum is housed in the former Hotel Alcazar building that was built in 1887. Unfortunately, the museum was closed for a wedding and electrical repairs both times we visited so could only get photos of the exterior. IMG_202002...

The court yard at the former hotel has a large fountain. IMG_20200229_181537.jpg The stone work was very impressive. IMG_20200302_171740.jpg The college gives tours of the building that we missed. The tours go into areas of the building that we could not visit such as the dining room. IMG_20200229_1...

Another interesting place to visit in St Augustine is Flagler College. The college is located in the former Hotel Ponce de Leon. This building was built in 1888 by railroad magnate, Henry Flagler who also built the railroad to Key West. IMG_20200229_171358.jpg IMG_20200302_162030.jpg IMG_20200302_16...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

The old downtown area in St Augustine has several blocks of gift shops and even some very nice art galleries. After spending all morning shopping, we stopped at a cuban restaurant for lunch. On their menu was a sandwich called Curt's meatloaf sandwich so that's what I ordered. It was real good and e...

This fort is not nearly as large as the fort we visited West of Key West but this fort didn't require a 70 mile ferry boat trip to visit. More misc. pictures of the fort in St Augustine. Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

We spent two days looking around St Augustine and probably could of spent another day as there is lots of things to see and do there. St Augustine is an old city that was established in 1565 by Spanish explorers. There is an inlet from the Atlantic ocean that comes into the city with an old fort gua...

We found these carved pieces of wood in one of the store windows in downtown Daytona Beach. IMG_20200228_190151.jpg The bridge over the ICW at Daytona Beach had painted piers. IMG_20200229_082750.jpg Our next stop was St. Augustine where once again the city marina where we stopped was near the histo...

The Travis Hardware store is a destination in its self. IMG_20200227_164937.jpg After staying two nights in Cocoa, we head to our next stop, Daytona Beach. The city marina where we stopped is located near the old downtown area. It was late in the afternoon when we arrived and only had time to visit ...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

We have been doing and seeing so much the last week that I have fallen behind in updates again. We even had a Glen-l boat builder visit us this week. We left the St Lucie lock docks after spending two nights there. There was another Great loop traveler that locked through with us in a Ranger Tug boa...

Re: Travels and Adventures of "Curt's Dream" a True Grit design-The Great Loop

I had a general idea of the route that we were going to take before we left home. But, I have been modifying our travels slightly as we go along. So far the biggest change has been going to the Keys and not going to the Bahamas this year. We have to go home to take care of several things during the ...
