Re: Spun prop hub??

Thanks Peter. That makes sense but I dont follow you on why it does behave like a ratchet in forward but not in reverse? In reverse, engine not running, it turns the crankshaft. In forward, not running, it behaves like a ratchet?

Re: Squirt Chine Trouble-Fairing Questions

I may be missing something but I dont think you really have to remove anything if you dont want to. Looks like you have plenty of "meat" on your chine and sheer to be able to fair away a good amount of material and still be plenty strong. A sharp observer might notice the asymmetry in the finished p...

Re: Build methods

Having built both S&G and Framed up, in the final product I generally like the framed up builds better as the boat feels stronger/stiffer and more robust overall. However, S&G can be a much, much faster way to build. There are difficult tasks in both S&G and framed up builds but I think there are fe...

Re: Spun prop hub??

Matt, I took the prop off and the backside you can clearly see the rubber hub material. It doesnt look obviously bad to me. I've watched a youtube on replacing the hubs in larger outboards but this one doesnt seam as easily replaced but I am not sure. One interesting thing that might indicate a diff...

Spun prop hub??

Took advantage of nice fall day to warm up the little 9.9 on the skiff and then change the oil. I hit a stick about 1" dia and 3ft long and the prop cavitated and we stopped. Saw the stick right behind us. Kept on going and a mile later we revved up and slowed again. Thought maybe I hit another stic...

Re: 206 lb. 40 hp. motor

Its maybe 60lbs on the heavier side than the 40 hp motors the boat was designed for back in the day. I wouldnt be too concerned about it on the water but where it would concern me is when trailering down the road hitting bumps in the road. Motors of that size and weight have been used several times ...

Re: Roberta's Zip for sale in Miami

I definitely was not suggesting the market for these boats warrants the price listed. But if someone was intrigued enough to want to know the current condition in order to prepare an offer, I've got time to kill while there.

Re: Roberta's Zip for sale in Miami

Interesting. Kind of an odd ad. But then again south east florida itself is a little odd. I sure hope the seller is willing to negotiate. IF anyone is interested in the boat and would like a report of its current condition I could probably go look at it for you next week. Ill be down there for a wor...

Re: Console Skiff Build - Console Placement

I think it will actually help it. The two I have seen run seemed to do better with a little weight up forward.

Welcome! There are a few of us Hoosiers here on the forum. I've had good luck with Northwest lumber in Indy and Johnson's workbench in South Bend for all my lumber.
