Re: Pee Wee in Maine

Do you ever go to work? Sleep? Eat?

Seems to me you're boatbuilding 24/7......and I like it!

Re: small block engine for Riviera

Is there anything sexier than a brand-new crate engine, bolted to a skid? Love it!

Congratulations & good luck on the installation!

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

What year is your 18HP? Pre-'74 engines are a lot easier & more fun than more modern engines...

Either way, step 1 is getting a service manual & reading it front-to-back. Next, register here: http://aomci.org/forum/index.php The AOMCI guys are a great bunch & a wealth of knowledge.

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

Well, like most things, there's a back story. If you followed my build thread, you know that my '53 Super Fastwin died (blown journal bearing) on launch day.....so I bought a 25HP that got me through the vacation. The 25HP ran great, but was a wee bit under-powered for the boat. Once back in NJ, I d...

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

Didn't have to plug & re-drill...happily! Holes were sanded out so that the tubes are now "sloppy" by about 1/16"......and the holes have been given 2 coats of laminating epoxy. Holes still have enough room for the tubes + thickened epoxy. My construction epoxy order showed up las...

Re: Pee Wee in Maine

We're up north, by downtown Wayne, off Davis Point! We'll be there next Aug with the boat.....I'll give you a ride if you're up there same time!

Ever been up to Androscoggin Boat Works? Chris does some wonderful restoration work. I learned an awful lot from him...

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

I'm giving this a ton of thought, and I keep circling back on your notion: plug the hole (glue in a 1" dowell) and start over with a 1-1/16" bit...

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

Honestly, this all bothers me a bit. Sure wish I had known all of that before I drilled my 1" holes. Broaching them out bigger won't be clean....

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

Can I ask one more dumb question? Holes are drilled with a 1" forstner bit....tubes were a tight, press fit. I removed the tubes, and applied thin epoxy rubbed into the fresh-cut end grain & let it cure. We all know you can't put a 1" peg into a 1" hole, so as you can imagine thes...

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

OK.....holes are drilled, drains are fit.

Which is preferred for gluing / sealing them in: 5200 or epoxy....and why?

Thanks!
