Lake Hopatcong (NJ) Wooden & Classic boat show 6/23

Anyone attending? Anyone showing?

My little boat is entered! I don't expect to win anything, I'm just looking to have some fun with fellow boat enthusiasts.....

Re: Where to buy boat insurance?

Haggerty.

I called 12 insurance companies......when they heard "home made", the conversation ended. By contrast, Haggerty was happy to discuss my boat! I have ample insurance for a very reasonable cost. Give them a call!

Re: Tongue weight / gross weight questions

Update: I've never liked my trailer's bunks: too short, too narrow, and covered in that cheap "rat fur" carpeting that traps water against the hull. So I made new bunks: treated 2x6, capped with 3/4" vinyl, and they're longer, extending a foot further forward & 10" further af...

Re: Tongue weight / gross weight questions

Driving the GMC Acadia with the trailer doesn't feel any different at all from driving without the trailer. The truck doesn't seem to even notice that there's a trailer attached. Nor is there any noticeable downward movement of the rear of the truck. If there's a problem here, I can't find it. Yes, ...

Re: Tongue weight / gross weight questions

Yeah I get the math.....and at the ball, I have 300lbs. (4' arm, ball at 1', scale at 3' from the ball.....reading 75 pounds.) For my boat, 10% would be about 85-100 pounds. I would have to move the boat WAY back or the axle WAY forward, neither of which I can do to the required extremes. I know the...

Tongue weight / gross weight questions

OK...confusion reigns. Last year I finished my Ski-Tow. I bought a Load-Rite 14F1000WT (1000 pound capacity), on the recommendation of the local dealer, based on the specs of my boat. I asked him about tongue weight & balancing the load, etc., and he said "this is a small boat....you'll be ...

Re: Malahini Chine bending

I did the "towel + boiling water" thing, too. It helped a lot. Not nearly as effective as steaming green wood, but with KD it definitely offers some strain relief.

Re: Malahini Chine bending

That picture of the split wood....is that one, thick piece? If so, that's at least some of your problem. You'd be far better off to laminate several thinner pieces. My chines were 2 pieces of 5/8" thick.......put on the first one, then walk the second one over top, with a lot of glue in between...

Re: Congratulations, Roberta!!

Can I ask a question? Your front flagstaff: How long is it? I'm looking for one about 13 - 15"....shortest I can find is 18", which is just too long for my boat. Need one for a 3/4" socket, too. Can't find one & I'm ready to borrow a friend's lathe. Yours looks to be shorter than ...
