Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Well, I had way too many friends show up and help...good problem to have...it was like tossing a chunk of wood. She's flipped. I tried a 26' Uhaul, but the opening was too small, so I returned it and got a Penske. We unload it in Virginia tomorrow.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Well, Tomorrow is the big day. I put 1 coat of epoxy on the boat, sanded it, then put another coat in areas that I had to sand to bare wood. At least now, there is 1 coat of poxy shield over the entire boat before storing it. I made the cradle. The boat trailer I bought was too short, so we sold it....

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

Well, she's ready for the final once over of screw filler. She shaped up nicely! I posted in the epoxy section, but I am pushing the pause button for 4 years as the military has decided to send me to Germany. We are trying to decide if we should epoxy, glass, and prime or just epoxy and glass. Thoug...

To prime or not to prime

I am heading to Germany for 4 years so my flyer will be stored in a garage for 4 years starting in Jan. I am getting ready to cloth the hull. Should I prime it or just leave it glassed?

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

I know it is darn near sacrilege to state anything against the process to some, but wouldn't it be just as effective to thicken the encapsulation coat prior to laying the cloth so that you could skip the filling screw holes part?

Also, Happy Turkey Day

Re: Glen-L Carries Epoxies for Your Project

Thanks! Poxy Shield should not be thickened when using as a sealer or fiberglassing. A seal coat prior to fiberglassing is a good idea to prevent the wood from sucking up the resin during the initial wetout to prevent starving of the cloth, which causes dry spots. Apply a seal coat and lay the cloth...

THere are schools for either method. I chose not to put down epoxy before putting on cloth and everything worked fine. Others will say you could get epoxy starved cloth if you do not.

Re: FF in Kathleen GA

One piece left! Dumb question. I have poxy shield. Do I need to put a layer on before the cloth? Do I need to thicken the poxy shield for clothing it?

Re: Glen-L Carries Epoxies for Your Project

Forgive my ignorance. I used poxy grip on all the building joints or mating areas. I have poxy shield to encapsulate the hull. Do I need to thicken the poxy shield when putting on the cloth? Do I need to encapsulate prior to laying the cloth on?
