Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

Looking good.

Just out of curiosity, how do you align a motor like this? Are you mic'ing between the two halves of the couplers?

Thanks,

Re: Matt's Geronimo

Hi Matt,

Yeah, I was just thinking about when to pull it out of the storage facility. I got a new trailer a few weeks ago, and need to shift things around so I can sell my Laser sailboat.

Re: Aqua Cat build progress

It will be fun to see this coming together.

Good advise to other builders, spend the time to get the forma and frames square, plumb and symmetrical. This will save a lot of time later and results in a solid boat.

Enjoy!

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

I encapsulated the tops and sides of the keel and battens, before epoxying them to the frames. The bottoms I left bare .

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

Hi Håkan, The sheeting was all dry fitted without glue. I used clamps to hold the sheeting in place and worked from middle of the boat to the bow and stern drilling holes and screwing it in place. Then remove all the screws and apply the epoxy, and re-install all the screws in the same order that we...

Re: Malahini veneer

How much square footage of plywood did you need? You'll probably need about the same plus a little more for the veneer.

Re: advise on scarff joints please

Hi Gregg, I scarfed the 1/4" plywood on my Squirt. I used a router and a jig to do the joints because I have one and felt comfortable working with it. This worked pretty well, but you need to have some way to clamp the plywood flat across the width of the joint. I tried double sided tape which ...

Re: Ring Terminals/Butt Connectors

Hi Matt, I bought all my wiring supplies from http://www.bestboatwire.com/ . He is a small supplier, but he had the best prices and the custom built battery cables were first rate. It was one stop shopping for wire, terminals, cables, sheathing, clamps, etc... I use the heat shrink terminals, and se...

Re: Squirt Finish Line

Hi Jim, You will probably need to sand down the micoballoons even with the deck, so I would wait to sand the deck until it is all flat. This will help prevent sanding through the epoxy on the deck. As long as you are using the same epoxy for the deck and microballoons, you shouldn't have to worry ab...

Re: Matt's Geronimo

+1 on those hinges. They look good, but can pop out and are pricey. I was able to cut my deck boards to fit around them before installing them.
