Re: Glen-L Party Boat

I think the drawings really show off the potential of this boat. It is very similar to a modern "deck boat". My friend has a Chaparral Deck boat and it is very practical. It is a cross between a speed boat and a pontoon. We've taken 8 adults down the river for dinner and drinks (or drinks ...

Re: Michigan Squirt Build

Hi Jeff, I'm communicating with Travis, who is local, about this outboard. In general, it is in decent shape for it's age. My big concern is that I can wiggle the positions a bit, and there is some play in the tie rods/crank shaft. I've got all the manuals, but not too sure if I can do a full rebuild.

Re: Geronimo - progress and question

Nice work so far. Your Geronimo looks great.

Looking through some posts, a lot of builders epoxy the hole, let it cure, and then use 4200 sealant when installing the bolt. On my bow eye, I filled the hole with epoxy, lathered up the bolt, and put it all together wet.

Re: modified malahini

Hi Bryan,

I encourage you to get it as fair as possible. Once you start painting, you're pretty much stuck with what you have. Hopefully, your boat will spend much more time on the water than in your shop, so take a little more time now to get it right.

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

What year is your 18HP? Pre-'74 engines are a lot easier & more fun than more modern engines... Either way, step 1 is getting a service manual & reading it front-to-back. Next, register here: http://aomci.org/forum/index.php The AOMCI guys are a great bunch & a wealth of knowledge. Mine...

Re: Trasom Drains: Yea or Nay?

Nice deal on the Gale and Johnson.

I'd love to hear more on your rebuild and paint. I'm planning on restoring my 18hp Johnson, and I'm not sure where to start.

Re: Finishing Zip Hull

Nice work. You may not want to fiberglass your skeg. It will be easier to repair if you hit something if it is not glassed. I used white oak for mine, and just encapsulated it.

Re: Primer for wr-lpu paint.

Hi Bryan, I used the System 3 Yacht Primer on my Squirt, and rolled and tipped on 5 coats using less than a quart. I was only putting color below the waterline. If you are going with red, definitely put down primer first since reds are very transparent and you need an even color underneath them. Fro...

Re: modified malahini

I think you should have given it another day, to see if would set up! :D The nice thing about silver tip, is the no blush qualities. You have 3 days to recoat without sanding, but if you are applying multiple coats you have to make sure you have a plan to get the subsequent coats applies within that...

Re: Geronimo's motorbox

Do you have the option to put the fuel tank up front? They make permanent tanks shaped for the bow. You would then have a filler on the front deck.
