The Hawkesbury is a beautiful spot. I'd love to see a few glen-l designs in person

Re: Increasing the planing surface with a swim deck

Yes it makes sense.

My hypothetical suggestion was about swim platform that constructed in the same plane as the hull so as to effectively lengthen the planing surface when at planing speed.

It was just a thought...

Re: Seaworthy?

Discussed a little here... http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread. ... or-the-sea

I think hinting in calm seas it'd be ok

Re: Seaworthy?

i have some experience with those conditions and while I wouldn't consider myself an expert, knowing your boat and your own limitations is essential. I am a cautious boater so I generally get a few trips up my sleeve before going 'the next step' with a boat or conditions. Wave length is as important...

Seaworthy?

I'm considering the barrel back designs and am wondering about their seaworthiness. Say upto about 4 or 5 feet of swell. Not because I'd intend to take a barrel back out in that sort of swell but conditions can change quickly and I'm wondering how it would go if I had to bring it home in those condi...

Re: Increasing the planing surface with a swim deck

No I'm planning a boat based on the various barrel back designs and am hoping to arrange the seating further back in the hull - all just ideas at this stage.

Increasing the planing surface with a swim deck

I'm thinking hard here! If I put a swim deck on a barrel back (for example) that was at the same plane as the hull - this would extend the planing surface of the hull (?/!) The boat wouldn't be too affected at rest (?/!) but would likely be a little more stern light once the boat was on the plane (?...

Re: Barrel back 19 as rear cockpit race boat

Did these plans bear fruit? It's something I'm considering in the barrelback / key largo. Was wondering about the possibility of putting single passenger seats alongside the engine bay and moving the drivers seat back to where the back row is on the barrelback. Was thinking I'd need a narrow inline ...

Tasmania. There's a few things that need to fall into place but after we are settled I'm thinking I'll be starting on a barrelback

Re: New member from Australia

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'll bring up my questions I the appropriate section rather than expand here.

I'd love to see a few Glen-L designs in person - so I'll keep my ears open.

For the time being though I'm trying to keep my enthusiasm in check.

Howdy I've been lurking and checking out the boats for a while and wishing I could get started. Unfortunately, I may be moving interstate in the coming months and so I'm trying to be patient and learn as much as I can before beginning the building voyage. So many beautiful boats - it's difficult to ...
