Re: Building the Zip with the NEW Zip Complete Wood Parts Kit

That's not fair. The last boat flip I did I used 2 engine hoists, a couple old tires and a come along. It took about 2 hours of full on pucker that I was going have an issue with a boat I had just spent 3 months blue printed pump set back and re gel coat.

If you are really worried about it you can buy a radar reflector. They are super cheap and even come in folding models.

Not a leader, but I am an eagle scout. At 14-15 we built plywood folding kayaks then did a couple trips with them. The plans were straight from " boys life" in the early 80s I am not sure if these are the exact plans we used, but they look very close( 25 years ago lol) http://boysdad.com/archives/37...

Re: Never owned a boat and I'm thinking of building the Malahini

no better way to figure out if a boat suits your needs then to take a ride in one. you said you have a family of 5, if you don't mind me asking how old are the kids? the reason I ask is if they are on the smaller size, a 60hp would be more then enough power to pull them on pretty much any water spor...

also check the fuel lines for small vacuum leaks. its not uncommon to have a small one that is fine and idle, but under load it sucks air and kills the motor. while your at it check the carbs/ floats/ filters and diaphrams.
