Re: Who's Going and Where

Thanks Bill. I had ordered a shirt, is there anyway I can get that shipped to me. I would cover the cost.

Re: Who's Going and Where

Hi all,

My wife and I have had to cancel for this year. WIth Hurricane Irma pending my employer has cancelled all vacations for next week to help with restoral efforts. Hopefully we can make it next year.

Ok great. While it's not a wood boat, it is a 1988 so we are pushing antique! :D

Re: Who's Going and Where

I was curious about what the situation is like at the dock for the floating cabins. My wife and I were thinking about bringing down our 18 foot Chaparral for the weekend. Mainly for the river run Friday and to fool around on the lake Saturday. Is there plenty of room at the dock? I don't want to cro...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

I've been through most of the zip build threads a couple of times at this point. I made it out over the weekend to do a little more work. I have the stem, breasthook and transom knee glued up. I was going to do frame four as well, but broke my countersink bit so I just called that a good stopping po...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Thanks Andy. I'm currently planning on putting the tank in the front, but I'm still quite a ways from that decision. I've left the transom frames and ply long on all sides at this point, leaving me plenty of room to trim. I have all the pieces for the transom cut and sanded, I just need to suck it u...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Well after much gnashing of teeth and sanding, I've epoxied Frame 2 together! I'm feeling pretty good about it so far. I think a couple of my notches may be a bit too deep, so I might have to scab a piece on to space it out. I have to say that pox-grip is some thick stuff. I wasn't sure if I needed ...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

I really liked the look of the white oak, but the weight of it turned me off. Also what they had at St Charles hardwoods looked very roughly sawn, so it would have been more work in that regard. I guess not that bad in the grand scheme of things. In the end, I think I figured it would be less than $...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Bob I haven't checked with Menards. That Shaller lumber lists a 1/4 Meranti exterior grade on their website, but not much in the way of details. I might have to call down there and ask some questions. Roberta, I'm trying not toe the line between going cheap and not breaking the bank. But I do want t...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Bob, Thanks for the reply. I've gotten the wood so far at St Charles Lumber. I'm not sure if it is comparable in price to Schaller, but it is just down the street from me so convenience won out. I had originally planned to use the white oak for the frames, but after I got my hands on it I decided I ...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Thanks Bill and Roberta. I don't have an engine picked out yet. I was really waiting to get a little farther along before I buy one. I'd like to nail it down before I start on the motorwell, but that is a ways off yet. It seems like going with the long shaft for now is the best option. I can always ...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

So I've been staring at this sheet for the transom for several days. I've decided to forego cutting the angles on the bottom and the sides and am just going to cut the ply 1/8" over and the frames 1/4" over as suggested on a couple of threads. My question and what is confusing me is, do I have to ma...

Re: New Member from St Peters, MO

Well I've managed to get the garage clean to my wifes satisfaction and have built a layout table to work from. After a couple of attempts at cutting out frame 2, I realized that my crappy black and decker jigsaw was not up to the task. A quick trip to the hardware store for a new hitachi saw and the...

Re: New member from oregon

Joshua,
Your video's are a great help. I can tell you that your video's are one of the things that convinced me I could actually build a boat. Of course it's yet to be seen if I can yet.

I plan to steal a good chunk of yours and vupilots idead for my zip!
