Roberta :

Where did you get your stainless rub rail ? Does it bend easily ?

Thanks.

Re: Deck Trim

Hey cepjr :

I think I'm with you on the wood solution. I've been experimenting to see how far I can bend strips of Sapele and I think its going to work out pretty good. I may laminate several layers. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks to everyone for their help.

Deck Trim

What are your recommendations for trimming around the edge of the deck ? I have been looking at some of the posted pictures and its hard to see what's been done.

Thanks.

Re: How to finish deck surface

Roberta : Thanks for the info on the stains. I'm going to take a look at those Chris Craft colors.

Re: How to finish deck surface

Not sure about the contrast. I really like the look of your torpedo. What stains did you use.

Thanks.

How to finish deck surface

I have made my Zip deck out of strips of 1/4" Okume plywood. Now what is the best way to finish it. Should I put a coat of epoxy on first, then varnish, or just start with varnish on the raw wood ?

Thanks for the help.

Steering for Zip

What have you Zip builders used for steering? I've looked at the Sea Star single cable system but it requires a rather large hole in the dash.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

ZIP keel Battens

Do the keel battens extend all the way to frame 5 1/2 ? Or just how far forward should they go ?

Thanks.

Moveable Building Form

Now that the sides are on the ZIP, do you think it would be okay to unbolt the form from the garage floor and mount some wheels on it so I can move it around ? Need to make room for other projects.

Thanks.

Re: ZIP : Bending plywood question

Hey, BayouBengal : great treatise on the bending of plywood. You've obviously have a lot of experience and thought about it a lot. I'm thinking my next build will be cold molded also.

Re: ZIP : Bending plywood question

Okay, thanks all. Used Roberta's suggestion of the ratchet strap and it worked great. I was a little surprised at how the side sort of bulges out to get around the transom, but I guess that's how it's designed. Never noticed that on a boat before.

ZIP : Bending plywood question

Is it okay to steam heat plywood to aid in bending ? I worry about delaminating. I'm using Okoume marine plywood. Having trouble bending the side panel around the transom.

Fairing the ZIP sheeer

Trying to figure out how the sheer is faired, especially in the forward parts. Wondering what the profile of the sheer looks like here. to get the planking to fit flush against it all the way to the top, it looks like I almost have to fair to a wedge shape. Can't bend the planking much here to creat...

Re: Question about ZIP keel

Great feedback, thanks to all. I've trial clamped the keel in place and it is dead flat from transom to frame 5 1/2. I think I'm going with the stiffeners from transom up to frame 5 1/2 , between the frames.

Thanks again. I'll probably be back soon.

Re: Question about ZIP keel

Looks like stiffeners on top of the keel between the frames. Is this true ? How did you attach them ?
