Berth Headroom Modification - Nor'wester

Getting started and gathering information for the Nor'wester build and I have run into a few questions I was hoping to get some info on: 1. When I decided on the Nor'wester build I was set on modifying the berth headroom area. The "per-plan" clearance between the pilot house and the berth ...

Re: Nor'wester Build - Preliminary Questions

Thanks for the reply's guys. Bill - the plans actually do recommend the DF because of the weight factor - I forgot about that, I'm glad you mentioned it. I know that you had used it on the Tahoe, but did you use it on the Bartender (awesome project by the way) as well? That's a little more similar i...

Nor'wester Build - Preliminary Questions

Hi All, Just got the plans in for the Nor'wester. I'm a first time builder who has spent more time than I care to admit admiring projects on this thread, following conversations, and just learning as much as I can in general. I've been considering many different boats to build over the years, but a ...

OLYMPIAN

All, Does anyone own a set of the OLYMPIAN plans? If so, has there been a build for this boat with pictures? If there is a finished product out there, is the boat what you were hoping for? Also - engine size and performance - what speeds will the Olympian reach? Good in rougher waters? Any informati...

Re: Time to come out of the closet, True Grit

Curt, Unbelievable job with your build. I can only home that my build will be as rewarding as your clearly is. Quick question - I love the addition of the swim platform, and I think I'll follow your lead and install one on my Olympian. Is the transom in its plan location, or did you shorten the boat...

Re: Gentleman's Runabout - Additional Designs

Thank you for all of the replies! It is much appreciated! Bill, That is EXACTLY the kind of advice I was looking for, thank you so much. I am from Cape May, NJ, and this boat will be used mostly in the chop of the bay, or maybe on an ocean run during a calm day. I am used to driving boats with a sim...

Re: Gentleman's Runabout - Additional Designs

I love the idea of picking a 20-22' Biscayne, Tahoe, Barrelback, etc., eliminating the front cockpits and pushing the controlling cockpit to the back (and I think that I have the creativity to do so!), but how would I make adjustments for the engine location? I would still need four seats in the rea...

Gentleman's Runabout - Additional Designs

Figure'd I'd re-post this here rather than my last thread so everyone can see.... Thank you all so much for the responses, if I had any reservations at all, they're gone now! Mark, looking good! I've got a question however - and Roberta touched on this a bit - I'm in love with the Gentlemans Runabou...

Thank you all so much for the responses, if I had any reservations at all, they're gone now! Mark, looking good! I've got a question however - and Roberta touched on this a bit - I'm in love with the Gentlemans Runabout/Racer Design. I've always loved this look - the rear cockpit and long bow. Never...

New Boatbuilder - General Information

Hi all, I'm a new boat builder - as in I've never built a boat before. I'm an intermediate woodworker, and know my way around tools and the shop. Always had a passion for boats. My inclination is to build something smaller and manageable like a gentleman's racer for my first build. But then I feel l...
