GlenL 14 travellers setup

I would like to rig up a simple traveller for the mainsheet on my '14. Anyone have a sketch or picture of how the lines should run for this? Currently I have the stock setup with 2 blocks on the boom, one on each of the aft deck corners and the one main-sheet block on the centerboard trunk. I've pur...

Re: Self Bailers ?

I've been taking lessons this summer and our boats there had bailers. These boats were Pirate class boats. I have a GlenL 14 and don't think one would work very well for me. The Pirate is a glass boat with a nice flat floor, maybe slightly tilted towards the centerboard case. The bailer is located u...

Re: finishing a 40 year old project

That was May and June of 1972. There are two articles here; http://books.google.com/books?id=HLQP3v-8vwwC I've captured them and will pack them up in a pdf for you. PM me with your address and I'll email them to you. This was not a GlenL boat. Seems to be something cooked up by the guys at Popular S...

Glen L 14 outboard motor mount

My Glen L 14 came with a 2hp Johnson to assist in heavy-current/no-wind situations. The transom on my boat has been modified with a 5" cutout to suit the short-leg motor. The cutout doesn't seem to hinder the boat any, but the motor seems to be damaging the transom where it clamps on. I have to assu...

Re: centerboard removal

Latest on the centerboard repair. Pic's attached. I installed a Celeron blank where the locking pin goes through as that hole takes some abuse. I will drill through the centerboard case at the current hole location to make sure this lines up properly. The weight was attached with plenty of Sikaflex ...

Re: Kick Up Rudder Fittings

Hi guys, Little update on my Glen L 14 rudder mod. Pics attached. I bedded two of the approx. 550 g weights in the rudder blade with 3M 5200 then filed and sanded them fair. Scuffed up the blade and coated the bottom portion with epoxy paint; painted the rest of it over again with marine enamel, 2 c...

Re: Kick Up Rudder Fittings

That arrangement is what we have on the dinghies at the sailing school but with one key difference; your rudder sinks. The ones on the instructional dinghies are a foam sandwich with up- and down-hauls and held in a frame which can be gently squeezed shut on the sides of the rudder to remove excess ...

Re: Kick Up Rudder Fittings

Been working on several different things lately. Centerboard repair log is here: http://www.glen-l.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7815&p=52674&hilit=centerboard#p52674 While doing that, I melted some lead down, made a mold, drilled some pockets in the rudder and mounted the weights in the rudder bla...

Re: centerboard removal

Been a while updating this. Weather turned bad and I have to work outside. Also took some time to source materials as all this marine stuff is new to me and I don't normally shop where the deals on this stuff can be had. Every part is a little adventure right now. Couple of new pic's attached here. ...

Re: Kick Up Rudder Fittings

I'll take a few of the boat and mod's I have done. The one in the vid is not mine, just a local guy on YouTube. I didn't build my boat, either. I think it was built in Ontario in about '72 and I'm the 3rd owner. Keith

Re: Glen L 14 Sailing Video

I think it would be overkill to have two. My mast is very stable with just the one and the one I 'busted', didn't really 'bust', just parted 2 strands and we sailed on with only a little more caution. My boat is maybe 35 years old and I am the 3rd owner (I think). The shrouds and forestay on this bo...

Re: Can the GL-14 be used to row?

Found a few old threads on this, some dead links. Found 3 different formulas for length of oars: per the Glen L patterns for oars: 1/2 beam +2" = X X multiplied by 3.3 = oar length Another one: Beam x 0.25 = x x + 2" = y y x 7 = total oar length and from here, http://www.shawandtenney.com/wooden-row...

Re: Can the GL-14 be used to row?

Has anyone in this thread come up with an answer to whether a '14 can be set up for rowing? I haven't yet tried to contact Mr. Weiss as this thread and the photo are so old. The only difference I see is that the '14 has 6" more depth amidships. Same beam. How do you determine seat height and oar len...

Re: Kick Up Rudder Fittings

Root: Sorry, haven't got any pic's of my Glen L 14 as usually...I'm in it! Are there any shots you wanted specifically? I can take some while it's here on the trailer. Thanks for that link to Duckworks' auto release cam-cleat; that's a great idea. There is an article, I think it was on Jim Michalak'...

Re: Glen L 14 Sailing Video

I noticed those video's back when i bought my Glen L 14 a couple months ago (I'm in the Vancouver area as well). Looking at them again, I notice some differences between that boat and mine. There is an aft deck on his (poop-deck?) and the mast has 2 shrouds per side versus my single. Are those stand...
