Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

I don't think it is a Sears kit. Those don't look to be hard-chine boats. That is to say, the chine area just wraps under with a steady curve--like a canoe. Interesting design. Thanks Andy, this boat doesn't have a hard chine? Not sure what chine really is to be honest Do you think the guys at wood...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Thanks guys, this is getting interesting...you're a great source of help. I measured it and its only a 5' beam, 14'-4" long overall, 50" wide transom (x16" high from keel to bottom of cut out). The lines of the Nimrod aren't the same (side view, the sweep of the rub rail is different)...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Not a fan of these splits in the frames from fastening the floorboards. I'd like them to lift out, however I am wondering if they actually help stiffen the boat. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag337/ShoestringMariner/IMG_5571_zpsvcnunuws.jpg Someone mentioned battens...They are smaller than the...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

I'd like to see more pictures of this boat. I'm not sure I've examined one that old before. Post a few more if you don't mind. Maybe we can help you get her dialed in for max enjoyment. More photos...would love to hear any information about this boat. The PO said the steering wheel indicated it was...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Thanks for all the help guys. I wasn't sure how my questions would be received as I'm not building building a boat. I am very grateful for your assistance and I am planning on restoring and possibly modifying this boat to be a real head turner. I will take some more photos of the hull and framing fo...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Here's another couple of photos of the transom and motor. I looked at the 35's and they looked massive to the 18. The 25 looked big too http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag337/ShoestringMariner/IMG_5549_zpsgr4wirii.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag337/ShoestringMariner/IMG_5546_zpshfzv8hi...

Re: New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Thanks very much. I hope my posting here is ok as I am not a builder. And I didn't post this thread in time. I picked the 18hp. I can go back and get a 25 if everyone here thinks it will take it Here's a photo of the top of the transom. Approx 3/4" thick except for the motor plate. There are 2 ...

New to me Glen L Zip - what size motor to use?

Hey all, I've purchased a 1950's built Zip and the seller has a range of motors from 10hp to 40hp to choose from (Collector of classic motors) He's suggesting an 18hp as I want to pleasure cruise and also fish occasionally. It looks like the right size, and I'd be concerned to hang a much bigger mot...

New member from Ontario

Hey everyone, new member here from Ontario Canada. I just purchased an early model (?) Glen L Zip built back in the late 50's and I pick it up tomorrow...pretty jazzed as I love this model It's a plain jane build with the front cockpit and back open with just a basic bench. No fancy woods, just stai...
