Re: Stretching out the beam?

Bill, I agree totally with what you say, if you are working on the body of hand made car you make it fit. Bonnets you may need to be cut down, doors you may lead load the wings etc worked on many! Flaring by eye and feel is key. Much easer with wood boat and epoxy to get out of trouble. But it would...

Kens, I have a semidisplayment boat Nelson 34x9.0 feet with 2x250hp sabre diesels it goes really well 30 knots wights8tons and has 1.5.1 boxes 24x24 props and revs to 2450 rpms. We have had her 30 years! I just fancy a maghony for when we move to the sun. I want something like Evangeline but it's to...

Re: Let's be silly or maybe not!

Bill,
A runabout! A stretched miss apba, looking at the 40ft that is being built in Canada. Hacker built for Henry Ford a 33ft with a libity 450 Hp v12 in 1924 they said it did over 60 mph. So how about a Rolls Royce Metour? Up skaleing the plan to 30-33ft. I think I am going mad!

Let's be silly or maybe not!

Hi all,
How fast will a 30-33 feet 7.6 beam boat go? With 850hp with 1450 of torque 2500 rpm it needs to carry a fair amount of petrol in the sturn? Gearbox no idea at the moment, how much hull thickness? Iam I mad!!

Re: Stretching out the beam?

Kevin,
What if the plan comes in PDF not paper? Do you get offsets must find out? Printing is not a problem as one of our university's 60 miles away has a printer that does 3 feet and has a larger one. Just costs! But lot cheaper than private company.

Re: Stretching out the beam?

Kevin,
I would like to have a go, but I need to be in control and do not want to be in some one else's hands! The chance of the CNC for £60 per hour in the UK s cheap. Lots to think about! It's hard to find the right boat to build and engine is very high that I may use.
Thanks Steve.

Re: Stretching out the beam?

Kevin,
Ok it looks like back to my world. If you cut and shape by hand It is hand made and lot of hours. I thought I could have frames made in few hours not to be! After all they built boats on the river bank in third world countries.
Thank you Steve.

Re: Stretching out the beam?

Hi Kevin,
Well what can I say? An amazing reply thank you. If it is PDFs format to start with would it make life easier? Would you need cad? To go to DXF? I am thinking up skaleing it 25% 1.25?
Thanks Steve.
