Re: Notes on Metal Boat Building Methods

to add my idea to the subject of floating chambers: I am planning to put plastic bottles into the floor and the aluminium seats through openings after all the welding has taken place. thought of it as the most "eficient" way to not have to seal all chambers and not being stuck with heaps of wet foam...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

Your suggestions, tips and explanations are great and none of them can insult me. But truth hurts  and the idea of the model really hit me hard. I will definitely do that first now because it can answer me many questions I still carry around. What scale would you use? About 1:5? Yes sometimes ...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

I am without the patterns for the weekend but maybe I didnt perfectly get them. Will have to study them again. Everything is first time so it will take me awhile or even a boat to learn the most important steps. I thought the transom on the full size patterns wss drawn at exact position related to t...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

These thoughts and examples on beaching are very interesting. Our beaching id quite easy compared to what you are describing. We just get our stem a few feet up the sandy beach to unload people and stuff and retire to anchor in deeper water. Our tides are max 3ft on the carribbean so not a real fact...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

Actually yes. The focus is on smooth ride in rough wind chop. But I am considering doing la paz first and making a DE second. We always need mire than one boat and it would be nice to compare them. Oh and we work the carribean which is quite different to panamanian pacific because of winds and wave ...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

Ok so I understand that i can use 6061 for wet parts but 6063 only if i have to and only on dry parts. Is there an issue on having those boats in the water all around the year? I havent looked on the DE before but it seems also a nice option. what are the pros and cons compared to the la paz? By the...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

I will talk to my friend about de 5356 Is it good enough to use 6063 for any thing else than plat like tubes and angles? About ballast; sometimes we have higher value cargo but not always but this i think would show experience to add some or not. I would add trim tabs and fins If I really see a prob...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

I really appreciate your efforts to help me! So yes i was also thinking about that flat section giving us extra planing speed and yes our boat is pretty excepcional compared to the other pangas in the area and beaching was going pretty well, but as stated above the downsides are of greater importanc...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

Ok lets get more specific: The panga hulls work fine when its glat but bump the hell out of your back when ther is eind and you go higher speeds and I thibk it has to do with the flat part of the bottom. Picture below We carry up to 15 passenger and we where running up to 30 mph with the 90hp 4strok...

Re: Aluminium boat Panama

They use the panga because its the only econmic design available and they work terrible with tourist an high wind waves. Backpain programmed. No cnc package because there are no designs suited for our work and no cnc shops around. We will cut by hand and ot will be quite some work. What would you re...
