Re: Seattle Barrelback progress

The product is much thinner than regular epoxy. I use it mainly to set or seal the stain. Traditionally you would start with a varnish thinned way down for a first coat. I did this because I had the product, and it worked well on the sides, and it is commonly done, other than the straight varnish me...

Sanding is almost done. whew!

Getting ready to drill holes for all the fittings before I stain and finish.
I have a question, How did everyone connect and fasten their "lifting Eyes"?

Thanks!

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress

That is a friends, who is just finishing a total restoration...
But I also have a 914 that is restored. I continue doing cars also as a hobby.
(Maybe if I didn't the boat would have been done.)

More fiddling with everything to get the pieces the same side to side
had to re-cut the inside edge of one of the covering boards.

Re: Barrelback 20'

Really interested in how you blend the covering boards.
Mine stand proud as a seperate element but I'm thinking to blend them in the stern.
I'll send pictures... Mine are constructed slightly differently. I deck edge to edge with plywood then am applying a 3/4 inch covering board.

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress

This took a bit of fiddling with to get correct. the boat is off about 3/8" side to side from the centerline, so to get even spacing and the same number and shape of pieces side to side I ended up removing about 15 thousands from each board on the long side and it worked out right. Same number ...

Re: Seattle Barrelback progress

I bought enough veneer for two boats, and at this stage I would like to sell the extra. It is from Certainly Wood in NY and it is extra thick African mahogany. Its thickness is 1/6th of an inch or 4mm. I suggest you give me a call and we schedule a time to meet and you can see the boat and supplies....
