Re: So, You want to buy a welding machine...?

North, that particular machine IS all-in-one: "The first product line in the industry to feature MIG/AC/DC TIG and stick function in a compact format with an enclosed, self-contained wire feeder comes ready to do whatever you need it do." So no need for separate AC unit. Kevin is correct; one can pr...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

Renn was a good friend. We had plenty of more or less friendly arguments (discussions) about skiffs and many other things for many years. His designs have been successfully ported to aluminum. I was doing some CAD work with him on a design that was to be used in Africa before he paddled over the bar...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

I'm about to leave on a trip to see grandpa (wife's 94 year old dad) and other family in a couple of days and I'm bunched up. But I have a comment that I would like to expand on when I land home again, and that has to do with what Kevin is saying about framing AL skiffs - it does NOT have to follow ...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

First, a thank you to Dr Bryan. I'm glad you enjoyed the show! To Kevin: Could you have just cut the sides 2-3" taller at the sheer? The 2-1/2" or 2-1/4" you mentioned that you sunk the cabin sole - what a pain it caused!! If the intent was to help the design's proportions to look a little better......

Re: 25' Skiff Build

All things must end. The biggest thrill for me is seeing a work product going down the road. Followed by being about on the water and seeing a skiff off in the distance coming towards you and thinking, "That looks interesting. let's see what when it's closer." Time will tell but for me, now, it look...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

SCREW UPS: I think there are two kinds of mistakes. The first is the kind where from either moving too fast, misreading a tape or some other form of miscalculation that hopefully isn't expensive either of time or money. Here we have an example of 'inching' where the poor victim of his own forgetting...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

I'm not gonna go into why I almost up-chucked but will save that for the end with details about screw-ups. BUT! I'm done. small rub-and-buff punch list and she's outta here: 92 (Large).JPG 91 (Large).JPG So the next pics will be of her going down the road. Then, I'll go into what went wrong and how ...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

"As to the software issues- just another thought- or possibility regarding the 'explode' and edit of the nested shapes. What is you selected the entire set of points- both the edited points AND the other points along the entire outline of one given 'part'- then used "Make Group" so they were sort of...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

Why the sloped 'beds' for the tank? You could have put a horizontal piece in place of the knee or sloped piece of bent material? So, what reason did you have for using the inclined surface as mount? I like the look and it's easy to make. I Like triangles. I get two out of one square drop. Now the ta...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

Yofish, some questions to clarify the software discussion a bit, and then some about the tank and install. In the software for NC cut path files you ended up with some radius or circlular curves that were defined by the software with many points- very close together to approximate a clean smooth ci...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

Wow Kevin, hope I answer all your questions! I'll start with some pics that should answer some of them: 88 (Large).JPG 89 (Large).JPG 90 (Large).JPG 45 gal., 1/2" clearance back and bottom, 4 ea. 3/8" galv. bolts, 3/16" 5052 material except cheeks out of 1/4" 5086 (lots of drops in that thickness, u...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

Fuel tank install. I've determined that these center/aft house skiffs like the fuel forward. This particular one has a heavy motor, Suzuki 225 (more HP than necessary) that weighs almost 600lbs. Below decks are better center of gravity wise but are MUCH more expensive to produce. Also, they will eve...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

One last thing about this business about files and how they become dodgy. As I explained I've had recent problems with what Kevin was talking about. So after doing a lot of work to make my new cutter happy there was STILL a quibble! The drawings I re-did were PERFECT except for this one issue, the s...

Re: 25' Skiff Build

cuts4.JPG The same process happens with longs, decks etc. Lots and lots of augments folded into the original inputs! I could go on WAY too long about this wonky stuff and really it's unimportant to the overall impression I'm hoping for. It's a distraction, really. Too much information. This all wha...
