Re: new member

Hi Duane
Yes I'm building a Vandal 22 feet. I just started building again as I had to stop building for a couple of years. I am doing the finishing inside the cabin now. Sure you could go to 24 feet. You are welcome to come and see the boat, l'am on the Cedar side of Ladysmith harbour. Don

Re: powerboats

Hi Reneb41 I designed the house as I was building , no real set of plans . I just put up the plywood sides oversize and drew the cabin side on the plywood and played around with it , till I liked it and it looked ok. The hull was lengthen to 27 ft. , with a diesel engine right at the stern , the add...

Re: Building The Vera Cruise

Hi I am building a vandal tug. I have an easy, cheap and accurate way of making templates, for hull planking, bulkheads , or anywhere you need a template. I have posted some pictures of the template pattern for the forward berth on my tug. The ply strips are 1/4 " x 2 1/2" wide screwed tog...

Re: Width of Frames on Rebel Tug

Hi Jerry I made my keel 5" deep at the stern and 2" wide. I made mine out of ply. , with the bow section laminated with 1/4 " ply. and then 3 layers of cloth and epoxy( I like to use ply. ,because I think it is more stable when fiber glassing over). I stopped the keel at the stern at ...

Re: Width of Frames on Rebel Tug

Hi Jerry Glad to hear you've started your boat. I am building the Vandal. On sheet 4 of the plans, the one that shows the frames gives the size for the frames. For example for frame 1 , the bottom piece will be 4 1/2 " wide(shown on frame 7 as 4 1/2" typical as for the other frames) and th...

Re: Trim tabs on a True Grit ??

Dennis I have a 27 foot true grit and I have 12" x 24" trim tabs . They do work and will bring the bow down. What speed do you cruise at? I had a 105 hp sterndrive diesel and cruised at 10 knots and the tabs brought her down. I now have a 170hp diesel and I cruise at 14 knots and I only us...

Thanks. Yes I did make the radar arch, out of plywood and then glassed. I used 1/2" on top and bottom and 1/8" ply on the rounded corners applied cross grain.
