When I was young, I lived in the SW of Ireland, our cottage was near a bog which flooded most winters and always flooded the road near the house ( and the house on 3 occasions also). I've seen people here use tar (pitch/bitumen) on the ends, they say it's even better than paint. Small boats owners on the rivers around here (Ireland) coat the bottoms (of the boats!) with tar to seal leaks and as a sort of anti-fouling. Messy stuff to use though.

Hi Guys, many years ago, I built a Sea Knight, powered it with a 25hp. Yamaha, no problems getting it to plane with 2 aboard. Lovely design. Best wishes.
