Re: Tahoe 23 Georgia build

So, it has Been a year since launching. I have had a whole summer to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I must say that I love this boat. The ride is very smooth, even on whitecapping lake chop. 20-25 mph seems to be the magic speed, but will do 42 @ 4200 using a stock, mid 90's carburetor engine (240 hp...

Re: Transporting lumber

If you have a reciever hitch, get something like this. I made many trips using one similar.

Re: Thinking about first build - Tahoe vs Monaco

I am going to have to agree with Bill. I apologize, as I had the 23' in mind. I don't think the 19 has enough room for 2 rows. If the cockpit is any shorter than in the 23, there wouldn't be enough leg room. The rear of the cockpit is limited by the engine. You can see that in Dave's picture as well...

Re: Thinking about first build - Tahoe vs Monaco

Thank you for the kind words! Yes, I think you could. It took a little thinking to do it but it wasn't too bad.

Re: modified malahini

If that is your waterline, the engine height above the water isn't an issue. Looking at the motor mount in the picture and the missing paint, it looks like your waterline may actually be lower than it was previously....

Re: modified malahini

I used to rig boats many moons ago. Many had mounting bolts below WL. The holes were drilled for outboards, silicone pumped into the holes, bolts with big aluminum washers shoved most of the way in, silicone under the inside washer, bolts shoved all the way in, silicone around the protruding bolt, m...

Re: modified malahini

Unless I am missing something, don't despair just yet. There are many many outboard boats out there with the lower 2 mounting holes below the waterline while sitting. My old fish n ski with a 150 is one of them. You could also take a look at a Jack plate. They make them that are aluminum, and are de...

Re: Tahoe 23 Prop Shaft Diameter?

I'm running a 1" shaft behind a 240hp 351, slinging an Acme 13x13 3 blade prop via 1:1 transmission. With 300hp you may end up with a different pitched prop. Are you sure the stuffing box isn't the one for the rudder shaft? I can't recall 100% but I think it is a 1 1/8" rudder shaft. As fa...

Re: Thinking about first build - Tahoe vs Monaco

I can't compare the 2 because I have not been in a Monaco. I will say that my Tahoe rides really nice. The few who have been in it also loved the ride. I modified the plans with regard to seating, but 5 fit well. With 2 bench seats, I would guess 6 total, comfortably. I didn't anchor my strongback, ...

Re: Extending the Tahoe 23 to 24'2"

Donn, I am glad to see you're back at it! I hope all is well. I didn't put flotation in the transom because I was concerned about water retention. I cut limbers into the crossmembers so any water that miraculously found its way it could exit. Keep us posted! I lurk a lot these days, but most folks a...

Re: Upholstery lessons

Yeah I had the same issue. I was mad at first, and upholstery was the ONLY project I was farming out. After it fell through, I bought a sailrite machine. The first time I'd ever touched one was when I pulled that one out of the box. Long story short, I did a good enough job, in less time, with a fre...
