I love those old Merc motors. I am guessing a 1969, 65 or 80 hp ?

Bill

It really has parts from several years in the late 60s. It is a 65 hp four cylinder.

Re: Transom saver with manual tilt outboard

Thanks for the input, I will use it today without the engine latch for the maiden voyage. I do plan to rig up something so that the bottom part of the rod that goes over the roller won't come off. Note that there is a sticker on the transom saver that says it is only to be used on motors with power ...

Transom saver with manual tilt outboard

Hi, I have a manual tilt Mercury 650 on a Malahini and I intend to use a transom saver (it will arrive today). I was wondering if others with a similar setup trailer with the outboard fully tilted and latched, or whether the outboard is left unlatched so it rests on the transom saver.

Thanks,
Shawn

Re: Malahini Progress on Long Island, NY

Update. Well, to make a long story short, finishing my boat took a long hiatus while I built a new home (an advanced "Passive House"- see phius.org) in Pennsylvania for my wife and I. I am the general contractor and I've been very hands on, so the boat went into storage before its maiden v...

Re: Malahini Progress on Long Island, NY

Finally, the boat emerged from the garage today. Wow, the natural light really shows the dirt! Anyway, I was able to transfer it from the dolly to the trailer by myself and it went smoothly. Now a few more details (tie down straps etc.) and it will be off to storage for the winter :(. IMG_1385.JPG I...

Re: Switched power from the ignition switch?

Roberta, is it OK to leave the key on when the engine is not running with older outboards?

Re: Switched power from the ignition switch?

Thanks gdcarpenter, that is really helpful. I am splicing the remote cable anyway so I will tap into the switched wire just for the gauge power. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Switched power from the ignition switch?

Hi, I am starting my wiring and I've studied a bunch of sources and have my design - mostly. I've installed a master battery disconnect, but my question is whether any of the circuits (gage power for example) should be switched using the ignition switch. I am guessing the answer is "no", b...

This past weekend I made my transom bands. The contour will match the spray rail.

Re: Trailer for Malahini with cutwater - no bow eye

Thanks vupilot, it really helps to know what has worked for you. I think I may bite the bullet and just buy a new trailer. It is comforting to know that you haven't had any issues with the cutwater when using the roller!

Re: Trailer for Malahini with cutwater - no bow eye

Well, there is space between the front edge of the cutwater and the hull. So if it got a decent enough bump I think it could deform.
