Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I finished installing the bottom battens. I am about 80% finished fairing the bottom. I will finish that up tomorrow and start routing limbers. The fairing process is a little tedious and a very slow go. I have followed Bruce Dow's advice and do about a 3' by 3' section at a time and after all of th...

Re: Squirt in Manitoba

I'm not too familiar with the Squirt, but have you tried going the other way? In other words, attach/clamp the chine where you want it to the stem and then work your way aft, bending and clamping to the frames as you go. On tough bends, I have soaked the piece to be bent in water for 24 hours or so....

Re: Who's Going and Where

That rings a bell Michael... Why don't you call HB and get yourself booked in F-1. He may have forgotten that he reserved the cabin and didn't let them know when he backed out. Something would definitely be missing if you weren't in F-1....That "Floater" has your name on it !!

Re: Who's Going and Where

I just spent 15 minutes looking at "who is going where" in the floating cabins and was sorta feeling like I had it figured out, but then I looked at the list again and got confused again. How can Mike be in F-1 if he doesn't have a cabin ?? Is Bill J in F-15 or F-17 ?? If he's in F-15, it ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Matt, Tom, Chris, and Carl.... No pictures today. Just plugging away at the bottom battens on the port side. I am ready for a new phase... enough with these battens !! Anyone out there keep track of the plywood used for cold molding hulls? I forget how many I used on the Gentry, but my rough ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I have been encapsulating and have glued in the starboard side bottom battens. The port side pieces are ready to be installed so I will start that tomorrow. It has taken a lot of time for the encapsulation as I did three sides with three coats. That was not very enjoyable. After all bottom battens a...

Re: Barrelback 20'

Charlie... I went to a local saw mill and purchased an old oak fence post. It was quarter sawn oak and I had the them mill it to my specs. I think quarter sawn oak is a good choice for the motor beds. Some use aluminum or stainless "L" brackets. I epoxied the motorbeds to the stringers and...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Matt....I think the RO sander will work fine with 60 or 80 grit to even out the plank edges, but then I would recommend you stick with the longboard and 80 grit until you get all dips and bumps out. Sand with the longboard at every different angle you can think of. Dr. Bryan suggested taking a penci...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks everybody...… Still very hot here and it's slowing me down a little. I'm not complaining though. I got the first of three coats of epoxy on the bottom battens this morning. Two to go Jim... First, let me tell you how much I love my six inch Festool sander. That along with their vacuum really ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I spent parts of the last three days dry fitting/scarfing the bottom battens. The problem has been the high temperatures in the 90's every day. I am only good for about one hour at a time in the garage, then inside to cool off. I know you Texas guys are going to chuckle at this and don't want to hea...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Tom... There were two frames in the bow section that were about 1/4" low where they attached to the stem. So when I faired the keel to the frames up there, the keel had a dip in it at those two frames. It was strange because the two frames met the chine at the right height so when I faired the ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Hey Footer... I was going to wait till my next life, but changed my mind. Thanks for the compliment I think I have the keel and forward frames faired properly with the help of some fiberglass mat and thickened epoxy filler... I picked up the mahogany for the battens yesterday and started to dry-fit ...

Re: Food

We do have an oven in Land Cabin 7 and all are welcome to use it. Or give the dish to Craig along with oven instructions and he will cook it for you !! Trouble is if you have him cook it, he may eat the whole thing before it gets to the dock !!

Cody.... Take a look at the "Aussie Gentry" thread by John R under power boats. His swim platform may be just what you are looking for. Here is a link that may take you there: download/file.php?id=26452&mode=view
