Re: New member from Pennsylvania

Welcome aboard Jon...... I live in Montgomery County near Skippack. I have my Gentry in my garage and have started another inboard build. You are more than welcome to come over to the house if you like. We can talk boats/boat building. I am in Florida now and will be returning to PA on 3/3, so if yo...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Tom,,,, I also am happy you chose to build the Malahini first. You could probably build one of Glen-L's inboards with no problems using their plans, but the plans for the PB 22 are very hard to figure out without some instructions. I am sure I will be referring to my Gentry plans and instructions ma...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Matt..... I guess you know my feelings.... I will definitely be putting a bow thruster on my PB 22. I think the stern thruster makes the boat more maneuverable than a bow thruster, but they look funny unless you can hide them under a swim platform. The one you have pictured is the smallest one I cou...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Matt,,,, I have two bronze garboard drain plugs in the bottom of the boat, one on each side of the keel about two inches forward of the transom. I think when the boat is on the trailer that is the best place for them. I keep the trailer jack cranked pretty high so any water will run aft. Just so you...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Six of nine frames encapsulated with two coats of epoxy resin and transom with three coats. I only coated the surfaces that will not be glued to something else later on. Now on to warmer weather till March. Happy New Year everyone..... Neel

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Bill.... Let's see how far along I am by September. Are you sure you won't need them for your next build? Thanks for the compliment Peter. Frame building is not my favorite thing to do, but every part of the build down the road depends on the frames being true to the plans. So a little extra ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

The pictures all look the same, but I am making progress. Frame 5 is ready for final sanding and frame 4 has been glued up and is ready for gussets. Three more main frames to go, and they will be built in March. For now I want to get everything coated with two coats of epoxy. I may have time before ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Frames six through nine and the transom have been sanded with 80 grit and are ready for two coats of epoxy resin. A third coat will go on after the hull has been flipped. I bought some more mahogany to finish frames four and five before we leave for warm weather on January 4th. Frame 5 has been dry ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I am up to frame six. This is where the hull starts to get too wide for full size drawings of the frames so you deal with "half drawings". When I made the patterns, I used two sheets of carbon paper so I could transfer the lines to both the pattern plywood as well as the underside of the d...
