Re: G-12 "Friday Lunch Run To Chattanooga"

Sounds promising that we may see a "diesel Tahoe" again at Hales Bar....Very exciting On another note, I will be updating the list of "lunch boats" and I have to get a rough count of "lunch people" for the restaurant. I think I have a pretty good idea of numbers but I w...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I finished cutting the limbers. There were about 15 that I couldn't use the router jig on so I put the regular base plate back on the router and clamped a fence where needed to make the cuts. Next step is to put a couple coats of epoxy on the limbers. Then, one or two more passes around the entire h...

Re: G-12 "Friday Lunch Run To Chattanooga"

I had my boat down to my friends boat repair facility to have a new raw water pump installed (it had a slow leak). They put a hose to the plunger and wedged it up under the hull, turned on the water, and started the motor. It took quite a while before water was coming out of the exhaust. I'm guessin...

Re: G-12 "Friday Lunch Run To Chattanooga"

"No water" could be a failed impeller. Was the boat in the water when you ran it? If it was, and you had no water, most likely the impeller. If it was out of the water, how were you supplying the water to the motor?

Check YouTube Bill. They have many videos on how to change impellers on Yanmar marine diesels. Not sure which engine you have, but yours may be there. You Can Do This Captain !!

Wow.... I thought I was having a bad week. Hang in there on the Tahoe.. You'll figure it out. We would really miss the smell of diesel when you fire her up. You can do this !!

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Okay, I have completely faired the bottom and side battens, the frames, the keel, the chine, and the sheer. Everything is sanded with 60 grit paper and that is where I am going to call it quits. So now it's time to cut in some limbers. I made a jig for my router and with a straight cut 3/4" bit...

Re: Tom's Tahoe

Nice work Tom..... You are using the exact same method of planking that I used when I built the Gentry. It made sense to me to start from the bottom and work my way up. The only difference is that I used a Raptor brad gun and nailed through a batten to hold the bottom of the plank to the hull while ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks for the comments and compliments everyone.... Today I switched to 40 grit on my 6" RO sander to fine tune the fairing. Also did some long boarding on the battens. I am guessing about two more hours of that and it should be straight, flat, and fair in all directions and ready for cold mol...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I spent about six or so hours this weekend fairing everything. I used my six inch RO sander with 24 grit sandpaper to get it very close to being acceptable. I'm going to switch to 40 grit next and then 80. There were many short sessions with the sander, working in small sections, and then walking ba...

Ray,

Craig and I still have ours. Thanks for doing this again this year. It really helps all of us figure out who is who at the Gatherings.

Re: Squirt in Manitoba

Instead of using thickened epoxy to fill gaps prior to planking, I usually cut thin pieces of mahogany on my table saw, maybe 1/8" thick and epoxy them onto the boards showing gaps. Then I sand it down again to be fair. It is much better to get your frames, battens, sheer, chine, and keel as pe...

Re: Coastal Cruiser vs. True Grit

Here is another possibility. This is a Double Eagle, stretched to 30'. It was at the Gathering in TN in 2012.... This boat is beautiful and will run close to 40 mph with a small block V8. I think the boat is designed to be 23', so you could stretch to any length you like up to 30'. If you look at th...
