Re: Squirt Chine Trouble-Fairing Questions

You could do it in any of the ways mentioned, but I am leaning with Chris's solution. It appears you have plenty of meat on the chines to allow for fairing them into the faired stem without separating them from the stem and moving them back. You can do wonders with a belt sander, plane, and oscillat...

Re: 20ft Texas Barrel

Nice job Matt. I love the bronze bottom paint. You are so close to doing some flipping. Exciting... You are miles ahead of me, but I look forward to running side by side with your Texas Barrel down or up (not sure) the Tennessee River. For me, that will most likely be G-14 at the earliest. I always ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Thanks Carl, Bill, Matt, and Peter...… Carl.. I am not planning to add many fancy devices, but I think you will see an engine hatch that opens electrically from right to left or left to right. You may also see a bow thruster or stern thruster. You will definitely see a disappearing electric hatch ov...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I had forgotten how long it takes to cold mold a hull. I have made my way from the transom down both sides and within striking distance of the pointy end. It is a slow process but it does show off the curves. I have been applying one coat of epoxy to the inside of each plank and letting that dry bef...

Carl.... As you know, I have been following your build since day one and continue to be envious of your patience... Everything looks great and I always look forward to seeing your new posts and pictures. One thing came to mind when reading the earlier discussion about donor bass boats. You said the ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Tom… I did use Raptor staples on the bottom in combination with wire staples (through rope) and drywall screws (through wood spacers). The Raptor staples would not hold well in arears with big bends and curves. The other problem I had with it was that it would jam fairly often. It required removing ...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

I spent a good bit of time the last few days doing final tweaking of the fairing on the hull side battens/frames. Also the bottom has been rough sanded and is ready for final fairing prior to layer #2 going on. I have started installing the planking on both sides. This process should go a little fas...

David.... Best of luck with your build. I know of two boat builders near you. One is Dean Wilson (Trisailor). I think he lives in Oakdale, but not sure. He built a Gentry several years ago and hasn't been on the forum lately. The other is Bob Maskel. He built one boat and is working on his second. H...

Re: 16' Ski Boat Restoration

Jim, I have a ZF Hurth 1:1 transmission in my Gentry. I remember when I first started the motor after installing it in the boat without the shaft coupler hooked to the transmission coupler, the transmission coupler would spin some in neutral. Once I hooked everything up and put it in the water, it d...

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build

Finally finished the first layer of 1/4" Okoume plywood on the bottom. As I got closer to the bow, the pieces got narrower and I could only glue two pieces on each day because of the way they had to be clamped. In the pictures you can see three or four pieces on each side that don't match the plywoo...
